See- the shape of it is the fishy thing. The bulge itself is pretty innocent. But from the pics, I really can’t say for certain. I’d give it an 80% chance though that it’s a pair of wadded up knee wraps or something.

no doubt…says alot about Matt’s strength of character…he is a super nice guy…i had the opportunity to train with him a few times long before he relocated to ohio shortly after he graduated from ball state, very smart as well.
I can’t believe this shit passed in one of the biggest meets of the year. I am just plain disgusted with Jesse Rodgers and his fed. This bullshit makes me glad I’m taking a step back from PLing for a while.
EDIT: Just read that Jesse Rodgers didn’t have much to do with the meet other than sanctioning. I would apologize, but this is only one of the many SPF fuckups…

Sorry it has taken a little bit to get things worked out but after finally getting to see the video and talking with Louie and others involved, here are the decisions we have made so far on this situation:
David Hoff’s numbers will not be excepted from the Pro Am. He has been disqualified.
He most return the money that he excepted.
Matt Wenning moves put to second place and WILL be paid.
David has been suspended from the Pro Am and any SPF meet for 1 year from 8/23/09
If he does not return the money he will be suspended until he does.
This is just a start and we will try our best to do what is right.
We also want to apologize to every single lifter that was there for this happening. Louie Simmons and Mike Fegerson works there butts off to put on the best meet ever and then someone has to mess it up for everyone. This is far from over.

That is an excellent analogy; I’m going to have to remember that.
But this really does strike to the heart of the matter. What happened to integrity? I mean, when I compete, my main goal is to beat whatever my previous records are. And I want to know that I beat them, not that I added something to get that number. Winning to me is great, but it’s secondary. Why do something like this? How can you face yourself in the mirror knowing you had to stick a damn manpon into your shirt in order to break a record or win a meet? I just don’t get it.

This is all a moot point now- it sounds like some folks came forward about what they knew. So it’s pretty much settled.
Absent that, all I could tell you is that something looked fishy in the picture. But until you either peel the dudes gear off or someone comes forward and goes “yeah, I did see him stuff a knee wrap under his shirt”, you don’t know anything- you just believe. At drug-tested meets, you occassionally may see pimply, red-faced mesomorphs jamming big weights. I would beleive these lifters are juiced- but I don’t know that. If nobody pulled them for testing and they hit a great total, what do we say? “They were on drugs, they cheated!” No- we say “Good lifting”.
