Overtraining at the Circuit Circus

Hey T-freques. My body has this annoying tendency to contract various illnesses right around the 6-8th week of too many training cycles to be coincidental. I feel that logic dictates a 4 on 1 off protocol for me. So I plan on beginning HST in a week, yet I also start my summer job as an athletic specialist for a camp program. Needless to explain, I shall be quite active. I’m thinking about dropping the set protocol down to anywhere from 15-18 overall, so as not to become overtrained and succeptible to those damn little microorganisms. What do you guys think? Thanks.

I think you’re doing the right thing. I’m assuming you’re pretty lean, too. Therefore, you will need to watch for overtraining (hence contracting them silly microorganisms) more.

Yo, MBE. Just a thought…if you’re dead-set on doing HST, well, go for it. But I’d recommend EDT for you instead. See the HST thread for my comments on the program, and why it probably won’t do much for you.

First of all, I want to thank my dearest, sweetest, hardcorest T-vixen patricia for her timely response. Char you crazed mofo, I thank you too. I actually did a month of EDT and made some real mutant gains. Thing is, my concern, as mentioned in the original post, is that my summer position as an Athletic Director/Coordinator wil leave me too fresh for evening workouts, that is why I thought HST better. Secondly, fellow poster and personal shirt-ironing boy Trev is roughly the same size as I am, and has fared very well on his variation of HST. Let us continue to argue, though. It benefits us all.

I disagree with char-dawg, HST gives great results to most people who tried it, me included. Just because it didn’t work for you doesn’t mean it’s worthless.

you’re very welcome, MBE. Just trying to do my part, however small a part it may be.

Patricia

Restless, I didn’t say it was worthless, I said that I don’t think it’ll work very well for MBE. There’s a difference.

But hey, let’s put it to the test. Monkeyboy, if you’re gonna try the program, then let us know what happens.

I said that you’d make good gains with EDT, and apparently you did. Now I’m saying that you probably won’t get much out of HST. So we’ll see if I’m right or wrong. (And if I’m right, I expect restless to come back here with a post giving me an abject apology!)

Just for the record, I think that HST works best for people who are overtrained. (Or newbies - but then anything works for them.) Don’t think that’s the case with you, MBE, so I don’t think you’ll get much out of it. But give it a shot. Maybe I’m wrong. And even if I’m right, you’ll have learned something.
