For a while I’ve been having anterior shoulder pain in my left deltoid ONLY when bench pressing and lowering the weight. My first solution was to narrow the grip further, not much help. I should note I overhead press weekly with ZERO pain.
I began to really focus on the arch more, this helped a lot but still some pain. I then kept reading about optimal elbow alignment and how a wider grip allowed better scapular retraction.
I benched with a wider grip this morning, worked up to a heavy triple, full ROM, ZERO pain or discomfort! Felt great. I was 15 lbs weaker but I assume that’s from getting used to a different grip.
Anyone else have similar experience?
