I do not want to move this thread in another direction but, what exactly do you think a Latino is?? Most if not all Latinos are mixed. We are not a race we are a culture. I am just ecstatic about this choice for a new Pontiff. He sounds like an awesome, awesome man. He’s dedicated himself to a life a purity, humility and service, and I cannot imagine a better candidate to head our Church. Super excited about this. It also gives me renewed faith in my Church, in that they Did not choose to pick some liberal, “modern” populist Pope, but went with a man who actually embodies the spirit and essence of what Jesus Christ taught us, That being service to God and your fellow man, love for one’s brother, mortification, charity, and love of God.

I thought it was pretty cool that, among other acts of humility, the leader of fully one seventh of the world’s population decides to forgo sending someone to fetch his bags or pay his bills, but does so himself, and takes the time out to personally thank the hotel staff. I took it as an indication of excellent character, humility and virtue. Which is, in my opinion, awesome.
It is neat he went to go pick up his bags, but who really paid the bill? Did you notice he had the Saint Peter Mastercard? That is a joke, but he did pay his bill, but his money was given to him from the Roman Catholic Church whether as pay or a stipen. I dont know how the RCC pays its priests, bishops, Cardinals, or Pope.

Didn’t Pope John Paul I go pick up his own bags, and left his medicine behind? That is an honest question.
Probably why he only lasted 33 days.

First Homily of Pope Francis

In these three readings I see that there is something in common: it is movement. In the first reading, movement is the journey [itself]; in the second reading, movement is in the up-building of the Church. In the third, in the Gospel, the movement is in [the act of] profession: walking, building, professing.

Walking: the House of Jacob. ?O house of Jacob, Come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.? This is the first thing God said to Abraham: ?Walk in my presence and be blameless.? Walking: our life is a journey and when we stop, there is something wrong. Walking always, in the presence of the Lord, in the light of the Lord, seeking to live with that blamelessness, which God asks of Abraham, in his promise.

Building: to build the Church. There is talk of stones: stones have consistency, but [the stones spoken of are] living stones, stones anointed by the Holy Spirit. Build up the Church, the Bride of Christ, the cornerstone of which is the same Lord. With [every] movement in our lives, let us build!

Third, professing: we can walk as much we want, we can build many things, but if we do not confess Jesus Christ, nothing will avail. We will become a pitiful NGO, but not the Church, the Bride of Christ. When one does not walk, one stalls. When one does not build on solid rocks, what happens? What happens is what happens to children on the beach when they make sandcastles: everything collapses, it is without consistency. When one does not profess Jesus Christ - I recall the phrase of Leon Bloy ? ?Whoever does not pray to God, prays to the devil.? When one does not profess Jesus Christ, one professes the worldliness of the devil.

Walking, building-constructing, professing: the thing, however, is not so easy, because in walking, in building, in professing, there are sometimes shake-ups - there are movements that are not part of the path: there are movements that pull us back.

This Gospel continues with a special situation. The same Peter who confessed Jesus Christ, says, ?You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. I will follow you, but let us not speak of the Cross. This has nothing to do with it.? He says, ?I?ll follow you on other ways, that do not include the Cross.? When we walk without the Cross, when we build without the Cross, and when we profess Christ without the Cross, we are not disciples of the Lord. We are worldly, we are bishops, priests, cardinals, Popes, but not disciples of the Lord.

I would like that all of us, after these days of grace, might have the courage - the courage - to walk in the presence of the Lord, with the Cross of the Lord: to build the Church on the Blood of the Lord, which is shed on the Cross, and to profess the one glory, Christ Crucified. In this way, the Church will go forward.

My hope for all of us is that the Holy Spirit, that the prayer of Our Lady, our Mother, might grant us this grace: to walk, to build, to profess Jesus Christ Crucified. So be it.

Another thing is, he is Pope now, for the rest of his life, so it’s not like he’s working to impress anybody or achieve any higher position at this point. This is who he is, and acts like these speak volumes about his character.

I don’t want to give the guy a Nobel prize for it. It’s just that…you know…believing you’re God’s Emissary on Earth can go to your head.
smh23 wrote:<<< believing you’re God’s Emissary on Earth can go to your head.
There’s a whole lot more to it than that and yes it can and has. I am very honestly quite torn in times like this, but I’ll just say he seems like a decent and honorable man who sees himself as a servant.

God help me LOL, I refuse to get into a debate about the papacy in this thread.

How much more clear can it be made. He doesn’t HAVE to do anything, he can literally act like a king if he wants to. The fact that he pointedly chooses not too is pretty neat, if you ask me. There are very few people on Earth who, given the sort of power and access to virtually anything that our Pope has, would not choose to indulge, just a bit. He has not and apparently is not. He’s acting like a real servant of God.

Jesus said, “The First will be Last, and the Last will be First.” Even though he is the leader of the RCC he should be humble and think of himself as a servant, which seems like he is doing. All Christians should act more like Jesus. Jesus humbled himself to the point of being put to death on the Cross. To God be the Glory.

We have two Popes, one active and one retired. Benedict is still a Pope, just as JPII is, though he’s dead. You’d still refer to Benedict as Your Holiness (reserved for the Pope in the Latin Rite).

By the way, Pope is one of those titles that has no real legal standing, it is an affectionate nickname if you would for the Roman Pontiff.
