Optimal Volume in Triple Progression?

Hi Coach,

What are you thoughts on the optimal number of sets for the rep ranges prescribed in triple progression? You used the example of 4 sets in your T Nation article and 5 sets in your Thib Army article and I am curious if you have a preferred approach. Intuitively, I would infer that a reduction in volume by 20% (or prudently avoiding adding 25% of volume) would allow heavier work sets (maximally effective reps) and avoid excessive cortisol.

E.G.:

4 x 10 or 5 x 10 (seems too close to GVT for your liking)
4 x 8 (a classic hypertrophy rep scheme)
4 x 6 (24 reps is close to volume of 5x5)
5 x 4 or 4 x 4?
5 x 2 (recommended in your rep scheme article under the strength section) or 4 x 2 (more strength skill practice with a 5th set seems to give the former the edge).
