I like that last line about finding the right activity.
One of my friends is a pretty good distance runner. He’s my age. He qualifies for Boston every year. We challenge each other to accomplish athletic feats. He challenged me to run a marathon. I wanted to see how fast and how far I could run. I ran some marathons, some ultra-marathons. I was putting in the same work as him, 50-75 miles a week.
It was a struggle for me to break times he’d be disappointed with.
I can beat him in 400m runs or less, he beats me in anything over 800m. I can deadlift more, he can do more pull-ups. I can swim faster, he can jump higher. I can break his ankles and shut him down on the perimeter in pickup games, while he can post me up and hit fadeaways and step-unders on me like I’m a four year old.
Our genetics are different. But who cares. We’ll still try to beat each other while also pursuing our own interests.
Build on your strengths and build on your weaknesses.
