Oly Thrower Bench's 622lbs Raw

Pretty strong and he is probably not on any steroids seeing as how he has to do testing for it all the time. He is a tall lifter also 6’6, could probably do well in power lifting if he decided to.

Edit his name is Christian Cantwell

Not to burst your bubble but OLY athletes get caught all the time, some are just stealthier than others.

I do solemly swear that this is my piss, so help me jeebus.

I dont give a crap if hes taking 3g of test a week, that’s a lot of weight. Yeah, he definitely gets a bounce, but he’s also doing that witha long wingspan, no arch and as a SUPPLEMENTARY EXERCISE for his main sport

I should have waited for a moron to think you weren’t being sarcastic, but screw it. What made that lift even more amazing was the form. I just don’t like the way that the standard powerlifting bench looks (Back breaking arch, stomache the size of a cow) Watching that guy bench that much weight raw with bench for that you would expect from a bodybuilder or a HS kid was great.

The reason he does it fast is because I believe its better for explosiveness which he needs to throw a 16lb ball 70+ feet. He claims he can do around 650 raw, he might be on test-most likely is because this is pretty outrageous for natural- but its still good lift for someone who doesn’t focus on lifting heavy weight.

Some of his other lifts he claims-sorry no links for these- “power clean 480 lbs. ( also 400 lbs for 4 reps), and squatted 650 lbs. for 3 reps. Keep in mind these are personal bests. My squat is down as my coach and I determined that for me a faster squat is more effective than a big squat. But I still do respectable weight 450 lbs. for 5. Also we don’t do any one rep maxes anymore so my best clean for reps is the 400 lbs. x 4 (I will do more soon).” taken from here http://www.trackshark.com/interviews/2003/christian_cantwell.php

have you seen the Ulf Timmerman (First man to break 23metres with 23.06m which was done in the rain not sunny conditions like Barnes) doing drop benches with what looks like about 500lbs, the bar is virtually dropped onto his chest, a foam pad dampens it, he explodes it back.
But his best feat was to do jumping goodmornings with sets of 12 reps with 120kgs on his back.

Manual Martinez - former indoor world champion benches over 660 lbs

Udo Beyer was famous for his strength levels.

you’re not serious are you?

Thats a strong and powerful guy! Nice lifting!

If I’m heavy on steroids I couldn’t do that in a million years. Christian is a freak, who earns my respect. He’s everything I want to be as an athlete: big, ungodly strong, ungodly explosive.

I don’t think anybody is doubting the strength, just more or less snickering at the fact that shizen thought he was clean. While I’ve heard of roids in a lot of sports, track and cycling just seem to rule the pack.

Gotta love how every time someone does some big weight they are on something… 600 + bench raw isn’t exactly godly, there have been quite a few people to bench 600 raw and without the use of illegal substances

no there havent. Pat Casey didnt do it until 1967, and while there have been more than a handful to do it since then, I’d be surprised if there were more than 100 people who have ever benched 600. Out of all the people who have ever lifted, that’s not a lot - and that’s without taking into account who was on and who wasnt when they did it.

Hell no thats not godly, I see tons of people benching 600 every day in the New York Sports Clubs. Plus all the track athletes can do it. Hell at every powerlifting meet you can see all the heavy weights benching 600 raw.

As far as Pat Casey goes yes if he says he did it without roids I’ll take his word for it, however, steriods were developed in 1939, and people did use them heavily in the 60 70’s and 80’s, they just thought the effect was minor.

600 lbs. is 600 lbs. The fact that anyone can lift that is mind bottling.

 shit

The record for a raw bench is 715. And that was a by a bench specialist who trains nothing but the bench. I’d say 600+ raw is pretty fucking good by any standard, also considering it’s not his main sport.

I just don’t get why o-lifters dont develop some sort of suit or other apparatus that will help lift the weight.

Shame, then you could bitch about another sport LOL

600lbs is a great bench from anyone. It’s pretty dam godly in most peoples books

Hey he might be the tallest person to ever bench 600 lbs also ;p.
