Obama's NAFTA Double Talk

I’ve got to admit, I like his “double-secret probation” position much better than the position he fed “the rubes” in Ohio.

But is this really changing politics as we know it?

Just a reminder about empty rhetoric on the campaign trail… (I’m still waiting for my middle-class tax cut from 1992, thanks).

I have noticed that the talking heads at all the networks are just starting to pick up the Obama double speak. Too late for Hillary but maybe not for the rest of us.

You can’t trust those communist Canadian media sources!

There has been quite a bit of media coverage on the NAFTA comments. What is the general impression of free trade in the US? Traditionally, I would have said the US was very pro free market, but in the past few years it seems increasingly protectionist.

As for Canada, we were originally terrified (I honestly don’t think that is too strong of a word) when free trade was first coming in. However, like most things it turned out to have its pros and its cons, but did not alter life in Canada.

Currently Canada is mostly in favour of free trade (from my experience), but we get pissed at times too on issues like dispute resolution.

My personal opinion is I like open borders and we should continue to work together to refine items of contention.

Rick Mercer, a comedian up here, commented that the US seems to forget we also have a say and if the US pulls out we, as a nation, will write a sternly worded letter to the US… we won’t actually mail it, but we’ll write it! So watch out.
