nuts

#1

Are nuts considered to be part of P+F meals. Nuts have many carbs too no?
Anyhow, what are good nuts to eat, any bad ones to avoid?
thanx

Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzz nutzzz

Most nuts and nut butters are fine. Like vegetables, you should eat a wide variety of nuts to reap the full benefits.

As for the carb count, remember that much of the carbs in nuts are actually fiber and the total carb count is very low and unlikely to be a problem in the context of of PF meal.

Peanuts are legumes, not nuts and they really should be avoided. I know I'll get flamed for this, but they don't have a very good fat profile and they can affect cortisol levels if you are even just slightly allergic. You might not know if you are. But they are just so damn good, I know.

Some people avoid pecans, although I have them on occasion.

Almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pistachios, walnuts, filberts... just make sure you go for unroasted, unsalted, no oil added. Heat affects the oils.

yeah....your best bet is to eat "mixed" nuts and include them in your P+F meals. All in all...great source of monounsaturated fat (haha...beat ya Timbo) and tasty as heck to boot! Just be careful. Nuts do tend to be very calorically dense, so try to limit yourself to a hand-ful (ie 1 oz) per day.

Unsalted? But why? We ought to try and get as much salt as possible.

#7

yeah, eat DIE NADEL's nuts.
They are full of something, i doubt it is monounsaturated fats tho

Hark, not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.

Nuts are never JUST salted. Oils are used to coat the nuts before the salt is applied. These oils are typically hydrogenated vegetable oils which we don't need. Additionally, unroasted nuts are what we should be going for and unroasted nuts never have salt and oil on them. Therefore if you are eating salted nuts, chances are they are coated in oil and thus, salt as well.

Besides, most of the people here would be getting plenty of salt from their tuna, cottage cheese and various other sources. I can't see a benefit for supplementing your diet with salt if you eat these foods.
