The Nutritionists In AIDS Care (NIAC) of the
Greater New York Dietetic Association presents
The Body Image Group: A 2010 Update
Examining Body Image Concerns of HIV positive MSM & Women
February 23, 2010
6:15 PM - 8:15 PM
New York, NY
Speaker: Jenny Torino, MS, RD
Gay Menâ??s Health Crisis (GMHC), Manhattan, NY
The Tisch Building
119 West 24th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues)
New York City, NY 10011
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: The participant will better understand how HIV-positive MSM and women can be affected by poor body image. The speaker will explore why practitioners may consider body image when evaluating program practice within the HIV/AIDS community.
At the NIAC Conference in March 2009, Jenny Torino discussed how poor body image impacts the lives of people living with AIDS and presented baseline data from a 14-session body image group created for HIV-positive men who have sex with men at GMHC. She returns in 2010 to share the final results and to discuss the revisions that were made for the second cycle of the body image group, which include the creation of a separate section for HIV-positive women. The goal of the presentation is to facilitate a discussion about program evaluation in the community setting and for participants to understand how both HIV-positive men and women are impacted by poor body image.
