Nobody Like Lost Here?!

Silly of me to post this as I’m not even caught up (I’m only on episode 8 of this season) but I’m a little surprised no one started a thread about the big finale.
Now, I can’t even come back and read this as there will be spoilers!

^it seems like you set yourself up for failure with this thread Nards

Love the show. Ending was good. Can’t say they fucked it up.

Spoiler Alert

How is it that Jack went down the cave hole and didn’t come out a Smoke Monster like “Locke”. Silly writers

I saw the 2 hour recap and series finale.

In the past I’ve only watched the first 2 or 3 seasons. The recap allowed me to watch the whole show without watching the whole show.

I gave this series a shot precisely because they claimed everything was gonna be explainable, no scifi, no kind of lame “this is actually a dream/purgatory” etc.

Well, turns out it’s true, everything makes complete sense - as long as you’re on meth.

Seriously, it got dumber by the minute and most of the plot components make 0 sense.

Strong acting, great characters, big drama and beautiful, exorbitant scenery? YES!

Plot? Nada, the old Star Trek was more consistent and believable by far.

They glued together so much stuff with metaphors that hold no substance
-“the Island wants this/that; I’m not supposed to do this/that”
-“the light holds everything together”
-“drink this and you’ll understand (the audience sure won’t)”

So plotwise, the series was a complete joke, and the joke was on us.
Or maybe, the Island doesn’t want us to understand? …yes that’s the reason for sure…

@Mod Jump’n Jack: thank you!

I’m not very much of a TV guy so I’d barely even heard of Lost when a guy at work at the time told me to download the first season and check out the first couple episodes. Season 3 I think was airing at the time, but he told me to definitely NOT watch it until I had decided if I liked it from the beginning.

I downloaded the first season and loved it. Exactly my kinda thing. By the time I had gotten caught up season 3 was over and I started watching the broadcasts from there. I always capture them with a computer, edit out the commercials and watch them later.

I thought the show was great even through this season, but found myself thinking as it got closer to the end “there is no way they are going to be able to tie all this up in the remaining time”

I have seen every single episode. I have absolutely no idea what I think of last night’s finale. The producers set for themselves a monumental task with this show and I’m not sure if they delivered or not.

Spoiler?

I felt that with that season finale, the entire series could have been cut a little shorter… The finale was still pretty good. It wrapped everything up nicely.

Or gone for a few more seasons depending on how you look at it.

There are some pretty good discussions going on as to be expected. The one I’ve found most useful thus far is here:

ive been pondering over it all night/morning today. i can’t say that i was 100% disappointed, but i agree that the writers kinda gave up and just ended it abruptly. but it does give me a chance to watch the series again to go on the journey again. after all that i can say i have never seen another network TV series with the same popularity and amazingness as LOST. Very very good series.

I know a lot of stuff didn’t make sense and wasn’t explained, but I loved the finale

Dude, nothing made sense P L U S they pulled the cheesy “it’s just dream”.
On top of that they even managed to botch that, because so many questions concerning that “afterlife” aren’t answered and conflict badly with the “plot”.

They could have as well include some porn at the end, and I say that would have been more honest and way more awesome!

It’s like a (bad!) Bollywood flic where you complain that the plot makes no sense and some fanboy is telling you, “so what douche, as long as they keep dancing, who gives a shit?”

I thought the scenes where the characters “found” each other again were well done. IMO

I have to watch it again and think about it some more. I’m not sure if even that is good or bad. I will say reading some of the blogs has made me more favorably inclined to the finale than I THINK I was at first. There is a whole lot more going on there than one person is likely catch in one viewing.

For instance, one guy mentioned that while Desmond was doing his rock thing in the cave he looks over at some formations and there is a shadowy figure squatted up against a rock watching him. I didn’t see that at all. However, I clipped that part and converted it into a series of images for close examination and sure enough he is correct. Who the hell was that and what were they doing there? Stupid meaningless detail? Maybe, but it’s still intriguing.

The shameless marketing ploy of including 20 additional minutes on the DVD package might shed more light on some of the remaining questions.

At this point I think the writers got themselves in over their heads along the way and bit off a bit more than they could credibly finish despite their insistence to the contrary.

I literally just started watching this show on Netflix (what a fantastic service). I’m like 8 episodes in on season one, and hooked. Seems like tons of people are disappointed in the ending, which kinda makes me wonder what secrets will never be explained, but I’ll keep watching anyway and make up my own mind.

NO NO NO!!! get outta here and everywhere else there may be spoilers. You MUST see the whole thing yourself without any outside input. Regardless of what you wind up thinking of the end, the show is an absolute epic undertaking that will only be ruined if you hear about it beforehand. Nothing could make me sorry I watched it. If you like it so far, suffice it to say you ain’t seen nuthin yet.

Probably because the stone plug thing was out when Jack went down, preventing the electromagnetic energy from killing him (at least initially). And because MIB was evil and Jack was good.

It wasn’t just a dream.

Did they ever explain what the big deal about Walt was? I watched all the episodes but I may have missed it.

Maybe because Jack was “like” Jacob.
