Beautiful day out. Meandered out to the the throwing area. Only took one shotput and 2 disc. Did some very leisurely throwing and walked a couple of laps around the track. Never even took my earbuds out. Tomorrow night my traditional spaghetti dinner. Picked up a few bags of gummi bears, full of fast absorbing carbs from dextrose and corn syrup. 22 carbs a 1 oz serving. 4 servings in a 4oz bag of Haribo (the only brand I’ll eat!). Been the only candy I eat since I was a kid in Deutschland. Would save up 25 pfennings (pre EURO) and sprint to the corner store and get 25 gummibären. Big thermos of coffee and a few bottles of water and I’ll be all set. 20% chance of light rain but suppose to be in the afternoon. Throwing starts at 0830 so should be alright. Only have to drive about 30 miles to get to the meet. Feeling ready.
Best of luck, Hel
Good luck Harry, hope you throw some bombs mate.
Good luck!!! We want pics of all the metals!
After reading your post, I feel like I’m the one getting ready…
I would say good luck, but you don’t need it!
Hope it goes well
Good luck!
Hopefully no rain.
Saturday - Light rain when I left home but cleared up when I got a few miles down the road. Meet was held at a High School but it was first class facilities. Huge turn out. Even had a professional timing company inputting all results. Signed in and took up residence in the stands. Discus was at one end of the field and shot at the other. First call for Discus wandered own to the ring. Several people I already knew. Enough in my age group for 2 flights with top 6 to final. 3 throws in prelim, 3 in finals. Throws acn carry over from the finals. USATF rules except they gave us 15 minutes to warm up and not just 2 throws. Didn’t throw many warm ups. Took my 3 throws in the prelims and didn’t push it, just get to the finals. In the finals I went all out. Disappoint a little, wanted a 50m/164’ but my best throw came out a little unsteady.
3 Hours, 2 bags of gummy bears and a large coffee later and did the shot. Followed the same format. I did scatch once in the finals. Had wanted to go 15.85m/52’ but didn’t get it. They told me I broke the meet and SE USA record. I ask about the Alabama record. Forgot. USATF doesn’t keep state records. I have to set those at the next meet which is the Alabama Games.
Sunday - Back to the dojo. Full hour kata, 1/2 hour Escrima, 1/4 heavy bag.
Monday - Good portion of the family had a Bar-B-Que at the Tut Fann Veterans Home. Good food, smuggled booze and cigars. Spent most of the day just talking to the vets. Good time.
Back to the Gym tomorrow.
Out of the throwing field early this morning and back to the gym tomorrow.
