Yesterday was a…deload day, yeah that’s what I’ll call it. Thursday was a great day of food, drink, and music. Turkey, ham, venison, and fish plus all the extras. Had it all at big brother Remi’s place. Lots of friends stopped by. Nephews band played some good Southern Rock and Zydeco. Went on well into the night. Plenty of time to recover before Christmas and New Years.

Disappointed, pissed off, etc. 1 week ago the Philippines opened up the Christmas season to let in tourist from “Green Zone” countries who’d been vaxxed. I’m not considered a tourist because my wife has dual citizenship so I fall under the “Balikbaan” and can stay there for 1 year without a VISA. Everyone thought they where about to open up. Boom. Omicron. They locked down again. On hold again.

Dojo, 2 hrs. Run 2 mile, bike 6 mile.
Random thoughts. I think one of the first bodybuilders I remember other than the ones from the Sword and Sandal flicks,Reeves, Scott, etc. was Dave Draper. So sad to see he just past. Another icon gone. Was perusing some of the articles on here today and discovered my whole like I’ve been eating a superfood, Sauerkraut. Been eating it as long as I can remember and love it. Wurst and kraut, and a stone ground mustard, is my go to for a quick meal. Mother makes the most delicious home made there is. Been eating Kimchi since my first time in Korea so for about 40 years. Looked up Sauerkraut once in a Korean dictionary and it said, “German Kimchi”. My guts are a varitable cauldron of good bacteria. Now if they’d only discover whiskey was a super drink.

Brat, grey poupon mustard and a good 'kraut is a meal.
Slice the brat, smear a dollop of mustard, scoop the kraut on top and fork it in.
Repeat until bursting.

Any kind of sausage, sauerkraut and whiskey. Some of my favorites as well. Have you ever made sauerkraut? I want to give a try but I’m afraid I’d make it wrong and poison myself.

Unfortunately even the greats like Dave Draper and Franco Columbu get old.

Made a lot, especially when the brothers beat me to Mother’s. Sliced cabbage, sea salt, garlic. How much of each varies by taste but you only need 3 tablespoons of salt to 5 lbs. cabbage. Mix them together, put in a very clean plastic pail. Get a large plastic water proof bag, fill it with water and put it over the salted cabbage mixture so none of the cabbage is exposed to air and it presses down. The salt draws the liquid out of the cabbage. Put it in a cool, dry place for at least 1 week and I’ve gone up to 4 weeks, depends on how tangy you like it. Temperature of the room your fermenting the sauerkraut in shouldn’t get above 70F, 21C. Mother has several large very old ceramic pots she uses to make hers. Couple of times a year her and the wife and sis-in -laws get together and make a huge amount of bratwurst und weisswurst. They make the kraut at the same time. One of receipes she uses vinegar in. Sis-in-law no.3 makes up at huge amount of kimchi every October to last through the winter.

Please don’t post another photo like that one. Jeez.

Thanks for the sauerkraut recipe. Surely you mean boudan vice brat? Everyone else in my office raves about boudan. Truck pushing is surely superior to prowler work.

Brats with kraut and Cajun Boudin, not to be confused with the European kind, with Green Onion potato Salad is my favorite. Lot harder to find good boudin and a lot harder to make at home.

Went by the pharmacy on the way home from the gym and got my Pneumonia vaccine, part 2. had to wait at least a year after the first one. So far this year that makes COVID vaccine shots one and two, plus booster, seasonal flu shot, and another Pneumonia shot. Having memories of being deployed to Africa in the military.

Reading Biker’s log and saw where he might compete in a gym meet inspired me to look up the Alabama PL records. Went to the USPL? /drug tested to see what the state records are. Well there are like no records from 35 to 64. There are records in the 65-69, 100kg (guess who) class. Ok, I don’t know if the USPA is a major organization or not but I found the records hard to believe. Same guy. Squat- 226 lbs, Bench - 231 lbs, dl - 367.5 lb., total - 810.2 lb, Ok, WTF. Guess people just don’t compete much after a certain age.
