New Weightifter, Football Player Training

#1

Hi, Im new to posting, so I apologize in advanced for any mis posting. (I searched for this topic)

My friend is 16,and a football player (wide receiver). Hes started wieghtifting recently , a few months ago,but at a fitness center with machines and smith machines,(only free weights where dumbells). So I have him using free weights with me now and using a 5x5 http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/ program. I know it says everywhere not to modify the programs but for football I was wondering if we could incorporate some sinlge leg work like elevated split squats http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/build_bigger_legs_one_at_a_time http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/the_case_for_single_limb_training
I was wondering if we could add them, or substitute them on like workout B.
I hope this makes sense. Thanks

if he's 16 and a football player that means he's in highschool right? He should/would be on the teams strength and conditioning program then... am I wrong? do what the coaches tell him to do
