New OTC Weight Loss Pill

Not sure if the T-Nation community had seen this in the news today. This Pill was just approved by the FDA:

The pills primary function is to block the absorbtion of fat. Isn’t this counter-productive? As a human being we need fats, carbs, and protein. I feel it will be used as a cure-all / crutch by obese people instead of address the real problem. Peoples diets.

I saw this on the news the other night. This just cracks me up though:

Although the side effects such as diarrhea can be annoying, they’re not fatal, according to Johnson.

“It’s not lethal, but it can be grave socially speaking,” he said. “[It’s] not something you want while on a date. That’s one reason the drug hasn’t really taken off.”

No pun intended, I suppose.

According to a NYT article, Dr. Jana Klauer, a weight-loss and nutrition specialist in Manhattan, said the drug’s side effect had been a deterrent to its use.

“I haven’t had terrific success with it,” Dr. Klauer said. “My patients just don’t like the side effects. I use it a little bit, but not a lot.”
