This thing may just happen to get lostā€¦

Iā€™ve finished the mold for my first atlas stone. I just have to buy some concrete and fill it up. It should weight around 175 lbsā€¦

Somewhere over the winter I really got out of shape. I was beat at the end of this workout.

Aftereffects aside that was a good workout.

Said maybeā€¦NEVER? By anyone before?? I could be wrong I suppose.

The sword is an odd ā€˜prizeā€™, Iā€™ll give you that.

 I feel your pain brother!!

youā€™re doing what now? Atlas stone manufacturing? You crazy folks from up North !!

You know, Harry has quite the collection of big swords from all his competitionsā€¦not too bad a path to follow.

Random fact, Alpha from this site mentions that more and more strongman comps are going to a steel stone because careless competitors get tacky all over the place and itā€™s just too hard to clean up afterwards. I sincerely hope the top comps donā€™t go that route, just wouldnā€™t be the same; a ā€œsteel stoneā€ is totally an oxymoron.

Thanks all. The sword has kind of lost its initial appeal. The boys havenā€™t been swinging it all around the past couple of days. I deflated the ball in the mold and found quite a few holes and weak spots. I patched them but Iā€™m not sure how good this stone will be. My next one should be perfect. Iā€™m planning on filing it this weekend.

I havenā€™t been able to wear a belt because it sends a shooting pain down my right quad. But I guess not wearing a belt is good for building abs and low back strength.

I used almost three 80 lb bags of cement in this thing. It was only supposed to weigh 175 but I think it will be at least 200. The ball must have been bigger than 16ā€™'. It settled a little and may not be 100% round. Next one will be better.

Great lifting by the son. See you be starting a sword collection. Got all kinds from the Highland games, there in the shed out back. Stones look great. If there are any stained glass businesses around you theyā€™re usually more than willing to give you old lead. How I made my throwing weights. Add some to the wet cement and you can increase the weight,

If he gets half the awards youā€™ve won heā€™d be doing extremely well. Thanks for the tip how to make stones heavier.

Here are some pictures of my finished stone. Itā€™s a bit rough but thatā€™s ok. It has to weigh 210-220 lbs. Heavier than expected. After a little warm up I was able to lap it and stand up with it. Iā€™ve got a while before I shoulder it. If I make another one there are a couple things Iā€™ll do differently.

I think I can hear your grass weepingā€¦

The stones, at my gym, are cast like that (up to 350lbs). I try to avoid that area  Those are pretty tough to mess with, Iā€™ll give you that.
Enjoy!!

Eric, just a small patch of grass is being abused. If anyone at your gym can lift the 350 lb stone I wouldnā€™t piss them off.

(no belt, all overhand)

  1. deadlifts 135x3,3 225x3,3 260x3 300x3 340x3 380x1

Got outside
2. atlas stone lifts 10 tries, 4 loaded
natural stone 4 times loaded
3. trap bar carries 315x4 medium distance

I stacked my 2 big tires on top of each other and loaded the stones on top. This atlas stone is my max. I can lap and load it about half the times I try.

Crazy cool stuff, looks like its going to be a good summer outside playing with rocks!
