An exercise physiologist (PhD) at my university and I are experimenting with a new training approach for this triathlon season. The idea being to minimize strength training until the 2 months before the event. Starting exactly two months (8 weeks) before the event I will start strength training. This in attempt to minimize hypertrophy and only benefit in the neuromuscular adaptation. In otherwords, increase strength without any fiber changes or hypertrophy thus no effect on my aerobic capacity. I am curious to see what you guys think of the idea. I am very intruiged by the concept.
Seeing as it was only a 2 hour discussion I am sure we didn’t attack or consider much else so I am hoping anyone could mention concerns thoughts that I could bring up in our next chat.
