I’m trying to incorporate more lower body exercises into my workouts, but i’m not really educated about them. Right now, all i’m doing is squatting and deadlifting. i do lunges every once in a while.
what would be some good lower body exercises to add? i just want to do some big lifts and not nitpick every muscle in my legs.
Squats are king for Lower Body Strength. Front Squats, Back Squats, Box Squats, Manta-Ray Squats, Zercher Squats, Squats with various specialty bars if you have access to them.
If you want more legs out of your Deadlifting, then you can do Sumo Deads, Sumo or Conventional Deads standing on a platform, or Sumo Deads off Blocks or Safety Pins.
But if you’re looking for something to do AFTER Squatting and Deadlifting, then it’s really going to depend on what your gym has.
Good Leg Extension, Machine Hack Squat, and Leg Press Machines are pretty hard to come by. Usually the more basic, the better
Back Extensions and Glute Ham Raises are preferable to Leg Curls, but if all you ahve is Leg Curls, then that’s all you have.
Don’t forget about Good-Mornings and Romaian Deadlifts.
There are other unilateral leg movements besides lunges, but none of them are really as good as the lunge.
Just because you have a lot of choices doesn’t mean you need to use all of them.
Right now all I do is. Deadlifts, squats, hack squats. Romanian Deads (I do partials, really hammers the hamstrings) BB Lunges, glute-ham raises. I think if you get real strong in all these you don’t really need anything else. Just more variations of squats incorporated maybe.
Yet, I agree with fighting scott. Stick with what works the best for you and log your lifts and do your best to beat that damn log book the next time.
