I'll try to answer you nicely to take the edge off all the crap you're going to take.
First, do NOT make the excuse that you can't "get big", if that's what you want. My background: HS and Collegiate Cross Country runner. I left HS at 6'2" 145 and left college at 6'4" 170. Currently at 34 I am 6'4" 265 with the goal of cutting down to a fairly cut 240 this winter. Other than a couple of cycles of pro-hormones and Alpha Male (only in the last couple years and after hitting 240)I have used no "chemicals".
The point is, you really need to sell out to a lifting regime and more importantly...EAT!! When I first was trying to break 200 lbs, I was having to eat 7000 calories a day. If you're a beginner, the lifting is easy...so concentrate on food. Lifting, use compound movements, squat, deadlift, presses, dips, pullups, etc.
