This is the latest in the recent debacle brought about by NBC’s network heads.
Conan O’Brien has been entertaining me and giving me something to laugh about for almost 17 years. Now, not everyone loves his humor, but in this situation, he is getting completely screwed.
As a loser, I enjoy watching late night talk shows despite being 19 years old. And this is bad news for me. Poor Conan, he never had any real confidence from NBC, even when he was on Late Night at 12:30.
This whole thing started over NBC promising Conan the Tonight Show in order to appease him, all the while underestimating Leno’s continuing popularity. That, and NBC’s lack of any good programming in primetime. They decided that Leno would work in primetime since his show was cheaper than scripted stuff ,even though it would get it’s ass kicked in the ratings.
NBC’s been going down the shitter for years. All of the networks have to deal with cable getting better and better, and other things like the internet, video games etc. But NBC is getting owned.
How the fuck does Leno keep on winning? If Conan goes to another network he’s going to be competing for the same [younger] audience as Letterman. Which means Leno is back at 11:35 with a bigger lead over Letterman than he had before. Leno’s audience is mainly old folks that actually found his sketches on the 10:00 show funny, so he has nothing to worry about. He shouldn’t have even gotten the Tonight Show when Carson retired way back…
Neither Conan O’Brien nor Jimmy Fallon has ever even caused me to so much as crack a mild smirk, nevermind actually laugh.
Jay can be clever and occasionally funny, though not usually roll-on-the-floor funny, but I still find him a good show host, at least with his 11:30 show’s format. He banters well with the guests, etc.
However, in addition to having the 10:00 time slot naturally working against him, his new show’s format sucked balls. Instead of spending serious time (2 segments, like 10 or 15 minutes of talking time) with his major guests, his new show was broken up into about 12 different segments (a comedy skit with that dancing/joking guy, the Headlines – which are good – the “9 at nine” bit, a sit-down interview with a guest, the Star in a Green Car thing – which sucked – etc.). This made the sit-down interviews with the big stars only about 2 or 3 minutes long, and then they’d move on to the next of 12 bits that they’d try to cover in the hour.
Frankly, if he’d kept his 11:30 show’s format, he would’ve done MUCH better. It’s good that they’re putting him back on at 11:30, but I have NO idea how he’s going to do a mere half-hour show. They should give him the full hour back, call it the Tonight Show (he was #1 in that slot before he left it), tell Conan politely “Sorry, it’s either back to 12:30 or else we understand if you want to go elsewhere,” and be done with it all.
They done fucked up. Put it back the way it was.
Incidentally, I think Craig Ferguson is by FAR the funniest guy on late night TV.

Conan O’Brien is the funniest person in the history of TV.
NBC isn’t smoking crack with this move, they’re taking a lighter to a plastic polyethylene container and inhaling the fumes while simultaneously smashing their collective heads against a granite slab. That’s how sutpid this move is.
Conan could move to a PPV Gay TV channel, and I’d cough up the money to watch him.
Conan on fox has potential. When Conan took over the tonight show his material became more PC, probably at the request of NBC. Fox; on the other hand, has had a lot of success by allowing their shows free reign.
There are no rules in show business… I feel no sympathy for Conan. He’ll probably go to fox, his fans will still watch him… its not like hes going to lose fans anyways. If you really like him you will watch him.

Conan O’Brien is a talentless bum. NBC would be lucky to dump him. He’d make a good mannequin.
