Nauseous Everyday. Not Sure Why.

So for the past couple months, I’ve been a little nauseous everyday. I figured that’s what came with the territory of eating alot and trying to get as big as possible. But, in the past two weeks it has gotten alot worse. So bad this week that everytime I eat, I have to try to nap afterward and it’s just a miserable feeling.

I have a constant feeling that something is coming up in my throat, but I don’t vomit. I’ve had to leave class and had to postpone training sessions. My diet consists of oatmeal, protein powder, gatorade and poptarts, chicken, rice, beans, whole grain tortillas, ground beef, bell peppers, broccoli, and redline.

This week I added lactose free milk back in and switched oats for shredded wheat. I eliminated the redline today, but I still feel awful. I’m striking out the fish oil for the rest of the week (perhaps a bad batch). Also, I recently (past 2 weeks) switched protein powders (from dymatize to Grow!). Any thoughts on what the culprit is?

Edit: I’ve thrown up one in my whole life and have no recollection of what it feels like. I have thought that maybe my issues are amplified by an intense fear of vomitting. If you think this has any clout, let me know. Thanks in advance.

It could be a mental issue. Are you under a lot of stress? This can lead to feeling ill.

Also it could be a kind of placebo effect in which you feel nausea because you expect to get nauseous…

Why not go and consult your doctor? This way he can determine wether its a reaction to food or something else.

good luck,

Good point, same thing happened to me for awhile after I got pretty sick with my stomach for a couple months, I just learned to control it after awhile and now I rarely if ever get nauseous, unless there is something physically bothering me in my stomach.

Also you could get referred to a gastroenterologist, could be some kind of acid reflux thing going on.

Maybe your pregnant?

All kidding aside, it may be a food alergy. Keep doing what you are doing, eliminating foods or changing your diet slowly until you find out what is triggering it.

Maybe break your meals up into smaller meals, like 8-10 instead of 4-6, would that help? Lots of volume in my meals can make me feal nauseous, especially if they are high carb meals.

I was physically getting sick after every meal for about 4-5 weeks, went to the doc, said everything looked fine, so I just played around with my diet and pay close attention to what was causing it. That is probably going to be your best bet, but you should probably see a doc to make sure this isnt something serious like diabetes.

Hold up! Diabetes?? Now you got me freaking out.

Yep. The doc said that it was possible that my stomach was not “emptying” properly. Basically, from what I understand, your stomach process food two ways. One, it uses acids and what not. Two, you have muscles in your stomach that physically contract and break the food down.

He called the condition Gastroparesis, which I believe means paralysis of the stomach. He said it was more common in people with diabetes. Anyways, he needed to run some lab work on my blood, and since I had already been fasting overnight, I went ahead and did it that day. Once it came back from the lab, he said everything looked fine, so I quit worrying about it.

Anyways, he gave me some pills that helped, I just took it right before I ate. After that, I stopped having issues, so I never went back.

If I were you, I would make an appointment with your doc and set it for first thing in the morning sometime, that way you can fast overnight and then go right in and he can take your blood samples and everything else. Typically they recommend like 12 hours fasting prior to taking the blood.

H. Pylori is the simplest and most likely answer. It’s quite common. Ask your doctor to get a breath or stool test. Besides making you nauseous, it will also affect your stomach acid production so you’re not digesting your food well - NOT conductive to getting as big as possible…

The treatment is several weeks of strong antibiotics so make sure you load up on the probiotics afterwards to minimize the nasty side effects.

Until you start the treatment, you could try a shot of apple cider vinegar 30 minutes or so before each meal to help stimulate acid production and maybe reduce the nausea.

My doctor says “when you hear hoofbeats, think of horses not zebras!” It’s highly unnlikely you have diabetes, but over 70% of the population is affected by H. Pylori at some point.

Yeah, dont get me wrong, I am not trying to scare you into seeing the doctor because diabetes is not likely the problem like G-Unit said, unless you have family history of it. I simply stated that my doc said the condition he thought I had was more common in people with diabetes.

I was just making the point that it is something that could be serious and need professional attention.

Also, H. pylori is usually asympomatic, meaning you could have it for years and not have any symptoms, and then it could just start acting up.

I was just eating a couple of hardboiled eggs and it made me think about this thread. Its not really a surprise that downing a lot of the same food makes you feel a bit nauseous… the taste just becomes kind of repulsive after a while…

Also, I read your edit about fear of vomiting, this probably explains a lot (doesnt have to). I have had that myself Its like a kind of hypochondria (Im not a doctor so go and consult yours).

There is actually a psychological disorder which leads to fear of vomiting. Ive read about it somewhere.

You guys have been really helpful. Looks like I’m off to the doctor.

Good luck!!!

Did you make it to the doc yet? Id be interested in knowing what is causing this, it will also be helpful for people that do a search on this topic in the future.

It sounds like heartburn to me. I get it rarely, and it usually comes if I eat a lot then lay down and doze off.

I will calling in the morning. I will update this thread upon my return.

So I went to the doctor today (internist) and frankly it was a rather disappointing trip. He said my case was perplexing and admitted he has no idea what is wrong with me. Then he told me to stop taking supplements (whey, fish oil, and creatine). He said things like “muscleheads don’t know what they’re talking about”, “there are no real studies that show benefits of these things”, “eat fish 2x a week”, “you can only digest 30g of protein a day”, and “eating an egg white omelet is the same as taking whey”. He had no answer when I asked why the nausea is happening now if I have been taking these things for years. He told me to only eat three meals a day instead of 5 or 6 because that’s “bad for you”. I had blood taken for some testing, but ultimately this was not helpful at all.

Frankly, because I think he’s just wrong. Anyone have any suggestions?

Im a bit hesitant to give my opninion because Im not a doctor but I honestly think its stress related and a mental issue. Make a list of your symptoms and ask for another consult, then ask about the possibility of stress being the reason for your problems. This might change his diagnosis or at least give a new insight.

Yes. Find another doctor or go to a naturopathic physician. Or find an independent lab that does H. Pylori testing and pay out of pocket. Most conventionally trained doctors have their heads up their asses. Science has advanced by leaps and bounds since their out of date textbooks were written. I’ll bet dimes to dollars you have H. Pylori, just google it and you’ll see the symptoms match.

I bet that doctor you went to was as old as Jimmy Carter…go find a real dr, one who doesnt live in the stone age anymore.

Just an update here. I got my blood labs back and my AST and bilirubin were high. So, I had an ultrasound to test for gall stones. That was negative; everything looked normal. So, in the next two days, I’m seeing a GI specialist who can hopefully get me on the right track. Hope to be healed soon. I have no appetite and Ive already lost 13lbs because of this.

I have been feeling these exact same symptoms and have found out that my H Pylori numbers are very high. I had to take the antibiotics coupled with Aciphex and has helped tremendously but I am still going to get an upper scope down at my gastro office to check for stomach ulcers, because I still feel nauseous everyday. I guess stomach ulcers can be related to heavy lifting. Let me know if you get any new info or start to feel better??
