My Thick-Headed Mother

Ok, I’ve been keeping a log of my workouts for the last few days taking the next 2 months or so to bulk up before the track season starts.

I went and got some weight gainer, to help me boost my calorie intake as well as protein.

My problem is my mom is a nurse and thinks i’ll crap out my kidneys if I eat 1g of protein per pound of lean body mass. Even though thats the standard for wanting to gain weight.

I keep telling her over and over that professional athlets use this stuff as well as anabolics and she dosn’t get it.

She went and talked to a nutrionist and the lady she talked to said I shouldn’t get more then 70g of protein A DAY!

I’m really pissed off, my mom keeps telling me that i have the genetics to be skinny.

I could give a shit if I have genes that make me skinny I want to workout and get big and she still dosn’t understand that.

I mean seriously? What would be harder drinking a shake that has 30 grams of protein and 500 calories, or eating 2 cups of cottage cheese 2 glasses of milk and a sandwich?

What would you guys do in my situation? It’s my money buying my supplements I don’t think I should have them taken away from me.

These shakes really help me out and give me a total of 1000 calories a day as well as 50g of protein. I would much rather drink the shakes instead of having to snarf down an extra 1000 calories worth of food.

2 ways : leave it at a neighbor’s ( friends) house or at school. Whenever you have a protein problem like this substitute porno, booze, pot, rubbers, etc. and you’ll see you already know how to solve it.

My mom was very, very angry when I ordered protein powder online, at age 15. I managed to convince her that it was basically dried milk. So she bought me as much milk as I could drink, as long as I didn’t use any protein powder. Eventually she softened her attitude.

Strangely enough, she didn’t care a bit about me having condoms.

HEY! you reminded me of a childhood experience!

When I was younger, I had my best friend, (he was over 18) buy me the new hustler magazine every month. I would take the plastic wrapper off, put the free dvd inside a music cd case, and I would mold the magazine around my leg, and slide it down into my boot. You couldn’t tell I was secretly smuggling in dirty magazines in my cowboy boots.

I’m not sure there is any convincing your mother that it’s safe because everyone knows nurses know EVERYTHING, right?

Like said above, keep it at a friends, although that’s a pretty shitty setup. Just hide it in your room, it’s pretty simple. Buy a shaker and fill it with the right amount of water and walk up to your room and scoop that shit in and shake. It wont take any more than 5 minutes and she’ll never know.

Than when you’re 18 say your moving out because she wont let you drink a gd protien shake.

Your mom wont let you have protein powder but she’ll let you have sex at 15? Lol…riiight.

Mommies don’t want to think about their sons sexual habits, so I’m sure she just mentally blocked it. However, let mommy get wind that you are harboring “contraband” and motherly hell breaks loose.

Ya it’s a load of horse shit.

I’m just gonna buy a 5 pound tub of Grow! when I need some more, or would Surge be better?

At any rate I think she’s starting to understand.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I am being honest about this.

This is probably why I had such a fucked up childhood, and was incredibly happy to move out.

Was that because she knew you’d never use them? Or is the dryspell only a recent phenomenon? Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Mom’s just worry about their little boys. That’s all.

I lost my mom a month ago from an accident at home and i’m going through an intense grieving period. Funny enough i’m remembering all the times she had a go at me for using protein powder, creatine etc. It annoyed the hell out of me at the time but I know it was just her way of caring.

Try printing out some articles on the benefits of supplements etc and see if she will read them. If not, just buy them and store them somewhere else like a friends house or at the gym if they will let you.

Good luck.

Get the Grow! for now. Eat her out of house and home on the weekends. BTW, exactly how much time do you spend at home!?! Put the stuff in your gym/school locker. Shake before school/lunch/after will add up the protien.

depends on what your using it for, Surge is for postworkout.
if funds are limited you can get some Grow! Whey and some powdered gatorade from costco. Which would be decent.

I did the article thing she didn’t read em.

I just cant wait till I move out, I’ll be able to workout eat food and supplement.

I’m home alot actually I lost my job bout a month ago and am still looking.

If it comes down to it I’ll just eat everything, chances are she’ll complain about how muchh groceries are since I’d be eating all the time.

Print out some of DOCTOR Berardi’s information about high protein intake.

My experience with nurses is that they think they know more than any other health care professional. It’s probably not going to work if he tries the logic path.

It’s true, I mentioned she talked to a Nutrionist at the hospital she works at.

The nutrionist said I should consume a maximumm of 70 grams of protein a day, I was already excedding that amount by about 40 grams.

I don’t get how my mom thinks protein is so dangerous and affects your kidneys even though some of the best athletes in the world have used it and are in the best shape of their lives.

I even went and told her that if I drink a shae with 20g of protein in it not all of those 20g are going to be shot into my kidney my muslces will use em to build more muslce and create hypertrophy through working out.

It’s just frustrating when you understand a concept and people refuse to admit they know you are right.

get yourself a job, and then buy and drink a gallon of milk every day (in addition to eating plenty of non-liquid food)…

don’t sweat it kid, you’ll grow like a fucking weed…

Isn’t 100g the RDA? Isn’t that based of like a 2,000 calorie diet? Doesn’t the RDA mean if you go any lower you’ll be deficient? If your mom is a nurse shouldn’t she know this?

I think you should stick with half of those calories and try to get the other 500 from food, unless you can’t.

I think you should try and sit down with your mom and have a reasonable talk. If she acts immature about it, keep being the mature one. If parents care and understand, they’ll usually help you.
