Muscle Milk PWO

what do you guys think of muscle milk as a PWO drink. there doesnt seem to be enough carbs because theres about a 1:2 carb to protein ratio. is Surge the only PWO drink that has the 2:1 ratio that we’re looking for? this is getting pretty annoying.

muscle milk has alot of fat too.

There are plenty of 2:1 products out there, usually found under the “Recovery” category. ON just came out with one that I’m giving a try right now.

is it called 2:1:1 recovery?

Im not sure whats so hard here. You want some quickly digested carbs with some protein post workout. Nothing with significant amounts of fat, like muscle milk. If your hesistant to order Surge, other companies have PWO recovery shakes as well. You can always buy whey protein and dextrose and combine them yourself.

It’s fine. It needs more whey. It’ll be absorbed relatively fast.

Yeah, we’re digging ditches, not splitting atoms. Realistically, you could combine any of these with whey for a PWO concoction:

  • Fat Free Chocolate Milk
  • Gatorade Powder
  • Table Sugar

I haven’t found anything better than Surge, although there are plenty of cheaper, less effective alternatives out there if money is an issue.

I have to agree 100%. There are many other possibilities to have a good Post-workout.
Fast carbs and slow protein are not so difficult to have after the workout. Dextrose and a protein shake or a protein shake and fruits or you can also have dextrose or fruits with meat.
If you want a fast and ready drink then i think Surge would be great but it isn`t a need

You want protein and carbs post work out. Not fats. Save the muscle milk for throughout the day and pre bed.

Yes there are plenty of cheaper alternatives that will give you the same results as Surge. You can even make Surge if you want, for a hell of a lot cheaper.

Yeah, good luck with that. I’d rather spend a few extra cents per serving than drink vomit.

you may want to rethink Muscle Milk

Agreed.

I’ve tried the homemade Surge bit and it’s not worth it in my opinion.

It’s a hassle to get everything separately and it ends up tasking like ass.

Surge is well worth it to me.

That ingredient is no longer in Muscle Milk.

You can get whey hydro that doesnt taste bitter. It actually has a pretty bland taste.

I make my own custom Surge and it costs me roughly the same as Surge. However, in Canada, I get hit HARD on shipping when I order from Biotest. Surge will always have better flavouring though.

I’m assuming the use of isolate instead of hydroslate…I really think its a negligible difference between using the two.

I find a big difference between WPH and WPI.

Granted, it may not be a big difference for a beginner, but those who push themselves hard in training and are sensitive to subtle differences usually can tell a difference.

Pop Tart + Whey (Yummy, and gets the job done)

Everyone Is always debating the Proper post workout shake from what I have learned and tried this is the only way to go if your not using Surge or ON 2:1:1 recovery

  • 50 Grams of Whey Isolate (Fastest absorbing protein available and has the highest Bioavailability)
  • 50 Grams of Dextrose or Maltodextrine (2 of the fastest acting simple sugars available and will cause a big insulin spike which is what you are looking for post workout)
  • 5 grams of Creatine Monohydrate(If you use creatine I think post workout is the best time to sutle it into the muscles)
  • 5 Grams of Glutamine for good measure

So STEP AWAY FROM THE OVER PRICED OVER HYPED MUSCLE MILK and get yourself Surge or do as I have listed and youl see the benefits of proper post workout nutrition!

yeah i got me some 2:1:1 recovery from ON. cant find Surge in stores. im also taking anabolic halo right after, but i dont think near worth the money so im stopping that after this tub and gettin me some regular creatine mono to add. hopefully ill see some good gains, esp since im a beginner. fingers crossed
