I wrestled in HS. Training like this would great you into great shape overall for wrestling. I would follow a more structured approach (Like 5/3/1 Kryptera) just because you got to make sure you have energy for practice and the matches.
I actually don’t have a rigid structure to how I setup these giant sets. I follow a basic 3 day full body template that goes:
Squat
Hinge
Pull
Press
Assistance 2-4
Condition
So based on equipment availability and what I feel like I’m in the mood for that day. But also you have to be smart. I don’t do more than 7 total movements (4-6 Lifts/Exercises + 1-2 Conditioning). Seems to be the sweet spot.
It is pretty dumb programming, but it works for me.
THIS is a GREAT giant set. Everything flows so well. Added 25 more skips for the month of February going to do 75 skips when jump roping. Such an amazing conditioning tool! Really underrated in my opinion!
Decided to take a big jump with front squats and DAMN new PR of 355 @ 5x3!
You know what really sucks though…unloading all the bars at the end of doing these. Swear to god that takes 10 minutes itself lol. I’m so gassed at the end. This would be too difficult with waving weights. I think I need a workout partner or pay someone at the gym to break it all down for me lol.
Same here man. Especially when you have deadlifts or back squats in. The lower back pump makes unloading all of it so miserable. Takes about as long as the training itself just to unload it all.
