MLB Season 2011

Miss going to AT&T park and bringing in deli sandwiches from Safeway across the street :frowning:

They need to do a 1 month packages of discounted Caltrain tickets. Shit is going up in price.

I don’t want to get to excited, but I do like this line-up. Been a looooooong time since Balt. has created any kinda sizzle.

    .278 BA, .354 OBP, .391 SLG, 4 HR, 15 RBI in 2010

You ever been to the Calico Cafe? I think that’s what it’s called. It’s a little hole in the wall on Townsend, between 3rd and 4th and they have fucking incredible Carribbean food. Thay have takeout, so you can bring it into the park.

They are young. Hopefully 4 out 5 will do damage. I’m putting a lot of stock in Buck. Don’t recall the record but once Buck got there they pitched well. I think they were like 32-25. Something along those lines. It’ll be interesting seeing the only way I see you winning that div. is by pitching. I’ll be happy if they stay competitive & win 82.

Has to be one of the stupidest contracts of all time. A 31 year old who’s never driven in 100 runs gets 20 mil per? This is on par with the Russ Ortiz deal with Arizona…just mind-bogglingly excessive, and especially so given that his numbers shouldn’t get any better due to his age.
The yearly salary is bad, but it’s the LENGTH I can’t stand. He’s a 31-year old player who’s only had two healthy full seasons, and we’re going to be paying him $20M/yr when he’s 36, 37, 38 years old?

Our owners suck. This screams of a panic move by them. Rizzo is too smart of a GM to have pushed for this, and the Lerners are universally reviled in DC.

O’s have a young staff with some highly regarded young guys. If Tillman/Matusz step forward, they could have a good year. Honestly if the’re in the AL West it’s a potential playoff team… but they might be last in the East.

Also, can’t rule out Wieters turning it around, dude is still young and it was only a season or two ago he was the next Piazza (in terms of bat).

I think Adam Jones will have a big year this year for the Orioles

But it’s hard not to pick Boston to win the AL East and I would pick the Yanks for the wildcard.

Toss up between the Rays and Jays for 3rd

This is basically repeated a million times a year by the Toronto media about the Jays. Except instead of the AL West in previous years it would be the NL Worst (West).

After watching Posey last yr, I’ve lost a shit-load of respect for Wieters. Should be interesting to see if he can rebound.

Reynolds is another one that needs to must some kinda numbers up. Now that he’s being protected a bit, hopefully his SO’s will decrease.

By mid-August when they’re buried behind three teams and they’re 25 games out of first, Buck’s micromanagerial ways and his incessant haranguing of players for things like clean-shavenness, dress code violations on road trips and his overall homogenous tendencies will have worn thin. My prediction: he’ll be back on Baseball Tonight this time next year.

I’ve got news for you: the NL West is the deepest, best division in baseball. After all, they have the best team in baseball in their division (the defending champion San Francisco Giants) and they barely won the division last year. It’ll be close again this year and I think that any team that can come out of that division is more than capable of going to the Series. SF already showed how overrated the Phillies starting staff is.

Lol. And in other news, the Giants are once again cast aside and forgotten about while the Phillies get all the press…just like last year.

I like the Giants to go to the Series again. They have a mediocre offense, but if Sandoval bounces back and Tejada continues to hit (which he’s done every single place he’s ever played), their offense won’t be as bad as most think it is. The Phillies are overrated. Howard and Utley haven’t been able to stay healthy the last two years and they’re both in their 30’s now, as are The Big Three on the pitching staff. I am skeptical as to whether or not they can stay healthy enough going into the postseason, if they make it.
How about Brandon Belt? A bunch of hype? Guess we’ll see when the games start.
Belt could be the real deal, but I think that, given the Giants’ propensity for veterans, he’ll have to be The Real Deal to displace Burrell in the outfield by moving Huff there and putting Belt at first base. I could possibly envision a scenario in which he platoons with Burrell, with either Burrell and Belt both playing left or Huff moving to left when Belt plays. Even after Posey and Sandoval’s first year, I’ve seen too many Ryan Rohlingers, Todd Lindens and Lance Niekros come through the system to get excited about a position player prospect. I’ve been deeply scarred, traumatized reall, and it’ll take many more prospects making it like Posey did and Sandoval did before I feel comfortable taking off my clothes in front of women again and…uh, what were we talking about here?
Either baseball or my ass.

I really wish I was going to some spring training games. I’ll have to settle for the radio and reports from some lucky bastards that ARE going.

KC Royals all the way!..but first DB’s,then St. Louis.

yeah, but there are several teams who could come out of the NL West. Who else outside of the Yanks and Red Sox are coming out of the East. That is why it is a tougher division. Two teams greatly over shadow anyone else in that division. Any given year the Giants, the Pads, the dodgers, and so on can lead the division. Sure, there is the occasional Rays team, but other than that, teams in the AL East not in Boston or NY are screwed.

This is basically repeated a million times a year by the Toronto media about the Jays. Except instead of the AL West in previous years it would be the NL Worst (West).

SF already showed how overrated the Phillies starting staff is.
yeah, but there are several teams who could come out of the NL West.
It’s tougher because of the calibre of teams the Red Sox and Yankees consistently field. You have to win a minimum of 95 games to make the playoffs in the AL East.

Yes you could argue the NL West is the deepest division in baseball THIS year. But shit in 2005 the Padres won the division with an 82-80 record. That would NEVER happen in the AL East.

Also the Blue Jays will be contending for the Playoffs in as early as next year or maybe 2013

Also, I think in a couple years it’s possible the Yankees might have to start rebuilding or at least retool their team now that their core 4 are old and retired/retiring (Jeter, A-Road, MO, Pettitte).

That’s one bold prediction to pick Buster Posey as NL MVP.

Especially since it’s not uncommon for players with breakout rookie years to slump in their sophomore year.
