Metformin (Cy Wilson your # is being called -:)

Can anyone relay their experience with use of Metfomin? Cy mentioned that it’s selective in it’s ability to improve insulin sensitivity. I’m assuming this is doubly good. An indiscriminate sensitizer would make me one fat %$#W#!! Sounds like it’s good on paper, but what is the reality of it’s use?

Well, I think it’s best suited for a cutting/dieting phase. Although I can only attest to what I and a handful of friends have experienced, it was pretty much a consensus that we were able to drop BF% at a quicker rate than usual. I, for example, went from 11% to 7% in about 1 1/2 weeks faster than normal. What I like even more so is its ability to increase glycogen storage. I think it really helps psychologically in terms of still being able to get a “pump” while dieting. In terms of it’s effects on paper/in vitro effects, it’s been shown to stimulate lipolysis and does not increase glucose uptake in fat cells. But, as far as real world/in vivo effects, the only study that might help was published in Aug. They gave metformin to obese women over a 6 month period and they lost more weight and visceral fat than the placebo group. Not exactly on par with what might occur in lean bodybuilding men, but hey, it’s still evidence. I really like metformin because of the previous statements. As far as dosage, I personally use 1500mg and occasionally 2,000, but that’s the highest I’ve gone, as I’m kind of a “safe-young guy” as much of an oxymoron as that is! Hope that helps. Let me know if I didn’t cover something.

Cy, how the hell did you got from 11% bf to 7% in 1and 1/2 weeks!!! What type of diet and “helpers” did you use? I have also used metformin and I have to say that it is a good drug. However, it does cause nausea in some people at higher doses and some nasty gas!

Sorry bud, I think you misread what I said. I only wish I could drop that much fat in 1 1/2 weeks! It normally takes me 5 weeks to go from 11% to 7%. While using metformin, I was able to accomplish this in 3 1/2 weeks. Actually, 24 days to be exact. So, I shaved about 1 1/2 weeks time off what it normally takes me.
