Meltdown II question

Anyone whose trying or reading about Meltdown II, could you explain to me the reasoning behind the progression–dropping the number of sets and decreasing rest by 10 seconds?

Since the point is to get more work in, doesn’t going from 5 to 3 sets for the trade off of 20 seconds less rest, mean WAY less calories burned from week 1-3? It doesn’t make sense to me?
