Medial Knee Pain?

Ok, so I’ve got some medial knee pain for the past few days. I want to know if anyone has ever heard of tearing or straining ligaments/connective tissue, etc. and not knowing it when it happened. By that I mean, not knowing something was wrong immediately, or nearly so, after it happened.

I’m not particularly worried that I tore anything, as this was a low workload weekend for me physically (I think it’s tightness causing it, so I’m going to switch shoes and foam roll my legs), but it got me to thinking about this question.

Is it unheard of?

I was kneeling and stood and twisted and crack. My knee felt weird but no pain. About 8 hours later i had incredible medial pain. My doctor and physio diagnosed me with a tear in my medial meniscus.
After an arthroscopy it was discovered my mensicus was fine but I had to have my knee cap realigned.

So my advice is to get it checked out pronto

Yes, it’s quite possible to mildly strain/sprain a structure in that area without feeling much at the time of injury. However, if you didn’t feel much, if any pain at the time then you either had a tremendous amount of adrenaline rushing through your body (unlikely since it was a light week) or it could be a pretty insignificant injury.

The joint will still inflame to limit mobility and begin the healing process, and many times it is that inflammation that causes more pain than the injury itself. If there is some swelling, then ice would be your best friend for now.

If you are worried, you should get it checked out if it doesn’t seem to be healing on its own.

However, unless you completely tore something (which would also involve tearing/severing the nerves in the area) you probably would have felt a significant injury when it happened.
