That is what the guy was looking for!

Genius, that is what he was told…in that first response…to weigh himself under the same conditions. We are nearly going on 2 pages now as if this was somehow NOT stated. Why is that? because I was unclear…or because you simply didn’t understand?
alright alright lets settle this once and for all. X, you partially gave me an answer in the first post by saying “to minimize the X factor.”
But you also mentioned BMI.
I replied to tell u that I understand BMI is irrelevant in this topic and wanted you to expand on ways how to minimize the fluctuation factor when taking measurements. I guess you misunderstood me and now you guys are arguing over nothing.
So, I get the point ok? take a measurement after a morning dump… so please stop

X didn’t misunderstand anything. I thought the exact same thing when I read your post. When you weigh yourself we don’t all it “mass” we call it “weight”. So using the phrase “body mass” is what triggered the response. I probably would have said the same thing.
The fact of the matter is you asked a decent question in a really stupid manner and then didn’t even bother to read X’s response. He has been saying the same exact damn thing all along and did not need to be argued with.

There you go, you went ahead and contradicted yourself. “We don’t call it mass.” I meant something, and you understood something else, meaning you misunderstood me. I really don’t wanna start anything here. heh my question was answered lets put it to rest. and btw, i did read all of his responses, and the point got through, so thanks.

No. He “knew” what you meant, he just wasn’t sure if you knew what you meant. That is why X said you were asking the wrong question. And when he reiterated himself, clarifying he indeed understood your question as stated and that you used the wrong phrase, he was again told he didn’t understand.
Jesus. It’s like pulling teeth… (that one was for you X).
I don’t know what’s worse- continuing to respond or the fact I have nothing better to do on a Friday night?

Just let it go. I am learning that crayons ARE necessary. I just bought a jumbo pack…the one with cyan and magenta in the fat size for children’s hands.
The simple answer: you step on the scales first thing every morning. Ok, you can scratch your balls and pee first, but that’s about it.
Also, don’t get all worked up over 1 heavy or light day. You want to look at the trend over several days, weeks and months.
Don’t measure yourself once a month. That’s stupid. If that happens to be a light or heavy day, it’s all messed up. Weigh yourself several times a week.

Good advice.
I actually weigh myself twice everyday (if I remember). Once immediately when I wake up and another right before I go to bed. I can usually guess exactly what each one will be based on both the day before and what I ate that day. It has really taught me exactly how my body reacts to all sorts of foods/activities.
It may be too much for the obsessive type, or the ones who freak out when the scale changes. I just see it as a tool, like anything else. You can’t go blindly for a week and not weigh yourself, well you can but that’s only for people who just don’t care.
I weigh myself probably 5 or 6 times a week on average, usually in the morning. I just don’t attach any significance to anything that’s not say at least a week or so apart. My only point is what good is a chart with 90 weighings from the last month? If I were holding that in my hands my eyes would immediately go to the beginning and the end. Then maybe a couple points in between. I don’t need or want any more than that.

I like the trending data I collect. I don’t write any of it down, ever. I just know what it changes from day to day. You’re right that it’s not necessary, but the way I see it it helps keep me in check. When I’m gaining I use it to closely monitor progress to make sure I’m not gaining too much, even a few days go by without knowing can screw things up (i.e. too fast) or similarly with losing.
Body mass will fluctuate like crazy, due to a million factors. Get over it.
One thing to do is to measure the weight first thing in the morning, after taking a dump but before eating or drinking water. This is as “stable” as it gets - yet not stable at all as you will notice.
Either don’t weight yourself too often - or do, but then use one of those “smooth graph” spreadsheets you can find on the Internet, which allow you to enter a set of wildly warying data but it will draw a “smooth” graph for you, essentially plotting a trend instead of all the meaningless momentary variations.
In any case, the body mass doesn’t mean much if you’re not also measuring the body fat percentage - which, again, is not a very reliable measurement.
