My question is- does it matter when you take in excess calories throughout the day in effort to put on a bit of muscle? Will one particular time of day make me put on muscle rather than fat, or is a calorie simply a calorie? Should I not wake up in the middle of the nite and have a bit of turkey and some nuts or some sort of excess cals? Any input is appreciated!
I like to take in a lot of calories at breakfast and in the 3 hours post workout. Those times tend to be when we need food most. The rest of the day, I strive to keep everything topped off. If you do wake up in the middle of the night, go ahead and have a snack. I’ll drink some milk, but if you want turkey and nuts, that’s fine. One trick I used when I had to try to eat 5000 cals a day was to drink a lot of water before I went to bed. I would wake up in the middle of the night and that would provide another feeding opportunity.
