zeb1,
I am not saying Bisbing was a huge threat. I am saying people with lesser records and more poorly matched skill sets got the shot.
They get a shot when it lubes the wheels of the great Zuffa machine. And the only lube they require is blood and money.
As far as I know the UFC contract doesn’t force people to fight. It says that if they do they fight in, and according to the wishes, of the UFC. If Silva or any other champ wanted to stop fighting all he has to do is retire. GSP did exactly that.
GSP did not have any fights left on his contract hence retiring was quite easy. But even then Dana White plagued him with phone calls, texts etc. to try to get one more fight out of a man who had endured many tough battles. White was not thinking of GSP’s health he was thinking of getting just one more big payday.
Did you know that White sues people for not fulfilling their contract? He also sued Randy Couture. I believe that one was settled when Couture came back the first time. Honestly, Dana White and company do not behave nicely with anyone who does not march in lock step with their specific orders.
None of this means I think White is benevolent in this, but I don’t see this as a Zuffa = evil and fighter = oppressed situation with regards to Silva. Now, the changes to sponsorship definitely make Zuffa look a bit like Mordor.
The changes to sponsorship is something that can be seen by the average fan as being oppressive and unfair to fighters. However there is a litany of many other things, a few of which I have stated, that make a fighters life miserable and highly unprofitable.
I get where you are coming from.
Just as an aside, are you the same poster as ZEB?

Robert A

None the less, glad you are still around.
I would guess that ZEB had too few characters for the new format.
I am going to choose to believe that the 1 means they have created a ZEB 2.0 model that can do 6 more chinups and has a 20% better recall of Romans, Peter, and Ephesians.
I don’t work for the UFC, so I have that choice.

Alright Alright… Cork…
I can deal with that! The rebels are a cool bunch

Thank you sir.
