By “natural weight,” I guess the author of the website meant the weight you are at before you attempt any diet or exercise.

(point is that doesn’t make sense)

most people undereat without even knowing it x2

‘why oh why aren’t i gaining mass’

gee… i wonder… no really… totally totally stuck. oh… hit genetic limits amirite??

I think that I should have clarified a few other things in my post. I’m 21 and male. I haven’t stopped gaining. I’m actually just starting my third cycle of my workout and I’m averaging gains of 5 lbs per month. I’m getting great progress, outgrowing clothes, and feeling shirts getting tighter.

I don’t have an eating disorder. I used to be an addict and a smoker, but I quit the drugs over a year ago and quit the tobacco seven months ago. I was diagnosed with low test, but I was retested by a specialist and they said I’m fine.

Some poster implied I was finding it “too hard” or something. I’m not. Actually I’m surprised everyone doesn’t do it now that I’ve started. I love every minute of it.

I just wanted to know if their is an accurate way to see how far I can push my body over five years or so so I can set realistic goals. Based on the info all the helpful people have given me it looks like my goal of 165lbs is totally doable and I shouldn’t worry about using any formula to guess where I can get to.

Thanks for all the helpful info! You guys are awesome.

Edit: Just wanted to reiterate. I am NOT stuck at this time. I’m making really good progress and just wanted to know what I should write down as my long term goals. I’m on track right now to reach my five year goal in less then two years. Keeping track of the numbers just helps keeps me motivated.

You said you are an addict, just curious what your DOC was? Fellow addict in recovery, so I was just wondering.

Well in that case. Aim for the moon - 225lb and eat for that!

Former addict. I was on oxys and heroin. I feel way better now that I’m not on anything (Except protein shakes of course haha). To quit I basically had to move away and lose contact with everyone I knew when I was doing that. It was a tough change, but worth it.

I’m not sure the “how heavy can I get” question is very relevant.

Asking how you can optimize your body for your personal goals is more useful.
For archetypes, look at

  • Strongmen
  • Gymnasts
  • Powerlifters
  • Bodybuilders
  • Various athletes (football players, marathon runners, sprinters, MMA fighters, rock climbers, etc)

You can’t change your genes (yet), but you can decide what you’d like to optimize for, and work toward your potential in that area. For example, my goals are predominantly long-term injury prevention (finally fixed lower back pain!), achieving decent hiking capacity and sprint speed and building general strength and flexibility. I’ll never be competing, ever, so I’m not concerned about weight classes or specific lifts.

Essentially: Figure out what you personally want rather what genetic limits you have and go for it. Most people’s desired mass goals will be well within their desired potential, barring those whose goals are mass-centric.

Dude, I weighed all of 85lbs in the 8th grade on my way to high school. By graduation, I had literally worked hard to get to 150lbs. Weight gainers were used to hit that weight so yeah, I have a clue what it is like to be skinny.

Prof at 85lbs?? That right there is my motivation for the next 3 months.

Make the most of this website and you could get to 250 in 5 years

That’s good to hear. I just weighted myself again and I’ve gained almost five pounds since I originally posted this haha. If I keep gaining at the average rate that I have over the last few months I’ll be 165 by October. Of course I can’t expect to get noob gains forever lol.

So your 136lb now? Fuck you must be skinny. No offence.

Keep at it!

Awesome!

And how, my friend, do you know “your genetics”?

Please don’t be real…

Hmmm guess you are for real…man, don’t worry about limits. I mean shit, don’t beat up on yourself when you realize you almost definitely don’t have it in ya to be the next Mr Olympia. But ANYONE that doesn’t have a genetic disorder or disease is plenty capable of becoming “that jacked guy” everyone points at. As in, you fill out a XL or larger shirt without being fat. Unless you’re under 5’ haha.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m not really to concerned with being the biggest guy on the planet. When I get to the point where I look like just a normal fit looking guy rather then being freakishly skinny I’ll be happy. Of course I’m going to keep trying to get bigger forever regardless of genes, limitations, or whatever haha. The bigger the better right?
