Manga and Anime Thread

Hi little buddies,

I have previously read comics and have always been a fan of the DC and Marvel world.

Recently I have travelled to Asia and have come across manga and anime. I was wondering if anyone here is into this? Do they publish much in English? Do they dub any anime shows in English?

Where would a good place to start? I am interested in more of the adult and comedy stuff, not really interested in watching kid shows.

Thanks.

Howdy!

You can find tons of english versions of mangas in any bookstore, and even local libraries! As for the anime, there are dubbed versions, even the more obscure ones.

One of my favorites, which is pretty adult in its violence, is Berserk. You can find it online for free. Its set in a medieval-esque setting and centers around the lead character Guts and his adventures with a mercenary band. It gets fantasy elements eventually.

Bleach is pretty popular and marketed mainly to young adults.

There’s a series called Hellsing that centers around Dracula/Alucard as he’s known in the show, acting as an agent for a special anti-supernatural organization based in Britain. Expect supernatural action and tons of blood.

Cowboy Bebop is a classic, and nowhere near as violent or bloody as the ones mentioned before. It has a tight story and delivery that calls back to jazz in many thematic elements, and is set in a space-faring future. Samurai Champloo is a similar anime made by the same company but is a bit more violent, with hip hop overtones set in the downturn of the samurai era of Japan.

Dragon Ball (and Z, and GT) are also classic!

Black Lagoon centers around modern day mercenaries operating out of South Africa taking jobs with various sorts of objectives that take them across the world.

All the ones that I mentioned are high in violence/adult themes, and there are tons more I could mention but aren’t too sure what you’re looking for other than ‘not kid stuff’.

Hope I helped!

There are millions of genres of manga and anime. You need to be specific in what you want.

My all time favorite manga is Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I think it’s incredible.

I highly recommend Death Note, and Cow Boy Bebop. Both are excellent.

I personally just finished watching Neon Genesis Evangelion (it’s a bit of a weird mecha anime), and it was both good and bad at the same time. It was a bit more than just action with big robots fighting, but at the same time it did some weird stuff (it had Freudian stuff). If you were to choose any mecha anime, then I’d say Evangelion would be the best choice for you (it was made for young adults instead of older kids/young teenagers).

Also to answer your question:Almost any popular manga you can find in English, and you can find almost any anime (especially if you are willing to buy the dvd’s) can be found with dubs.

You might want to look through this thread.

I thought Manga and Anime were for little kids.

Hey The Bird, I thought Psychopass and Death Note were excellent anime series. They are both dubbed in English and I would highly recommend them.

LOL. You butthole.

I love anime. It’s responsible for producing vast numbers of hot young white girls with yellow fever (I’m Asian).

I really enjoyed Death Note, though I’m not actually that heavy into anime. My gf (who’s one of said white girls) is, though. She really likes Sword Art Online, which seems to receive rave reviews from every anime-freak I’ve met (a bunch). Might be worth a look.

MMMMMMMMM

I’ll give you three current ones to look at that should tide you over for a bit.

No Game No Life
Tokyo Ghoul
The Ambition of Oda Nabuna

For a little extra, I’ll throw in.
Chaika the Coffin Princess
The Devil is a Part-Timer
Watamote

Full Metal alchemist is my current hook

Still not enough. It needs to be something that would render him completely silent. Something neither you nor I would want to post on this forum lol.

I could post the aftermath of Guts rescuing the women from the trolls. If the implications of that do not do it, nothing will.

I could also post any chapter of “Eden: It’s an endless world.” Which I highly recommend for Seinen fans.

How right you are, Spartee!

Ya, that’s why I deliberately chose the start of that particular bit of nastiness, instead of outright posting Casca’s rape scene.
