anyone else think that Welling should have been cast for this?

Welling and Routh have history with the character though, particularly Welling. If they were continuing Smallville’s story, then it would make sense, but it doesn’t look like it. Although, if Chris Evans can do it (from Fantastic Four to Captain America), then I suppose it’s not impossible.

Right. Welling has been linked with the series for too long. This is a completely new take on Superman. If they cast Welling, it would be potentially confusing to people who don’t get that they are separate interpretations.
I don’t think Smallville was ever meant to explore Clark Kent’s time as Superman. Besides, Henry Cavill came down to the final three for Batman Begins, Superman Returns and Casino Royale. He deserves a shot after that many near misses.

Too early to tell what that’s all about, but I’m hoping that all the mundane shit is about Kal-El trying to stay ‘normal’.
I’ve been thinking about how realistic a Superman movie could be. The obvious answer is to make the world around him as realistic as possible, like if we encountered a super-powered alien, most governments would be extremely suspicious of his motives…this IS sci-fi after all.
I’ve also read rumors that Kent will go on a spiritual odyssey like Bruce Wayne did in Batman Begins…part of that journey will involve Kent serving as a war correspondent and what he sees guides his decision to intervene.
Classic heroes dilemma: to act or to do nothing and just endure.
I think I am the only person in the world who detests the Superman franchise.

Pat hates it as well.

I think I like some better than others (“hate” would be a very strong word). I’m not usually a Marvel fan, except for the Hulk, but Avengers was very well done. Seeing this take with Superman makes me feel really good, and this is coming from someone who worked on Superman Returns…
This has been a really good year for comic book movies, hopefully the same will be true next year

I remember you saying that you worked on Superman Returns and you were disappointed with how it was received. I just don’t think Bryan Singer had the right motivations for making the movie.
He wanted to make a modern homage to Richard Donner, not Superman. In which case, why not just hire Richard Donner? I have a good feeling about MoS, though.

Yeah, I worked on it. I think, at the time, I felt it deserved better. After watching again recently, I can see why people didn’t like it as much as I did. MoS I think, will fare better.

This is a reboot so cross your fingers.

This sums it up for me perfectly as well.
I love how others say they think Batman is the coolest because they can ‘relate’ to him better. Really? you can relate to a guy who has the perfect body and face, is a multi-billionaire, has a genius level intellect and photographic memory, apparently can get knocked out, stabbed and fall ten floors on a daily basis and still perform like a world class athlete and not have brain damage? Yeah, very relatable
And don’t get me wrong, I love the Batman character and have spent thousands of dollars over the years on his comics but don’t tell me anyone of us can relate to him or any of the other super heroes. Superman rules, there I said it, the rest is a distant second :)
I love everything you said here!
I agree of course, and that’s something I don’t really want Superman doing: feeling sorry for himself.
I mean, you’re a handsome, well-built bullet-proof flying man that was only a newborn when you left your alien planet so get over it.

He’s the definition of forever alone. He can’t even bang Kara … well maybe if his pod landed in Bumfuck, Alabama instead.
