Judge: Man Is Too Short for Prison

SIDNEY, Neb. - A judge said a 5-foot-1 man convicted of sexually assaulting a child was too small to survive in prison, and gave him 10 years of probation instead.
His crimes deserved a long sentence, District Judge Kristine Cecava said, but she worried that Richard W. Thompson, 50, would be especially imperiled by prison dangers.
“You are a sex offender, and you did it to a child,” she said.
But, she said, “That doesn’t make you a hunter. You do not fit in that category.”
Thompson will be electronically monitored the first four months of his probation, and he was told to never be alone with someone under age 18 or date or live with a woman whose children were under 18. Cecava also ordered Thompson to get rid of his pornography.
He faces 30 days of jail each year of his probation unless he follows its conditions closely.
“I want control of you until I know you have integrated change into your life,” the judge told Thompson. “I truly hope that my bet on you being OK out in society is not misplaced.”
Wow, I am shocked and offended by these actions.
I understand Cruel and Unusual Punishment is taken into account for this ruling, and a child molester with a dimunative stature would sure be the target of some ass raping, but come on. Was the decision based on the fact that this guy is to small to defend himself? Small and helpless like a child! This is truly a travesty of justice.
From what I understand, rehablition of a pediphile is practically non existant. I remember reading reports of men who have been chemically castrated and still commit these horrible acts. This guy did it with little punishment, and I would place money, without even knowing the whole story, that he will do it again.
She’s probably right. He’d get killed in prison. ‘Normal’ prisoners are notoriously savage towards sex offenders. But I’m not sure if I think that’s such a bad thing…
If the child was too small to defend him/herself from this 5’1 fucker, I dont see the problem with him being too small to defend himself from those prisoners planning on buttering his bread.
Its mind boggling that a judge can change a sentence like that.
I hope that since he’s not in the clink, he wont be afforded the same protections that he would be if he were inside but removed from the general population. Maybe that way the kid’s father’ll get a shot at him.

Gee, if he’s that good at following instructions it’s too bad noone ever mentioned to him earlier in his life, “now remember, don’t molest any children.” Apparently it could have avoided that problem all together.
…and I’m sure he’ll get rid of all his porn, and wouldn’t even think of hiding some!
In other news, the Oklahoma state house has sent a bill to the Governer to sign allowing the death sentence for 2 time sex offenders of children under the age of 14. Send the little bastard over here. We’ll take good care of him.
I don’t much care what happens to sex offenders. I think they should all be in general population and if they get it up the butt, good. They deserve it.
He sexually assaulted a child! Fuck him! Let them run the prison train on him for all I care! Shove his ass under the jail wearing pants with a bullseye painted on the ass and a case of K-Y for each prisoner! He destroyed a child’s life, he needs to pay!

Sorry to all of you “Fox News” haters, but $10 says Bill O’Reilly gets this guy a tougher sentence.
I only read the Sidney part and thought it was Australia. Now, I have to go hang my head in shame that this happened in my country. I expect this crap in California, but not Nebraska…
