Macy's Fires Santa!

#1

Political Correctness is fucking ridiculous.

Sad news, kids. Christmas is canceled. The Union Square Macy's store has, sadly, fired John Toomey, known for 20 years at the store's "Santa John." Why? Well, according to the Chronicle, it all started with a humorous "adult" joke, one that's been told for years.

The Chronicle reports:

The joke has been in his Santa bag for decades. But after thousands of tellings, the 68-year-old retired caretaker for the elderly finally hit the wrong recipients - apparently an older woman and her husband, who considered it inappropriate.

Toomey - who stays in Oroville most summers and winters in San Francisco while he does the kiddie-on-the-knee gig - said he'd never had complaints before about the joke, which he saves for the occasional grown-up who visits him.

"When I ask the older people who sit on my lap if they've been good and they say, 'Yes,' I say, 'Gee, that's too bad,' " Toomey said Monday.

"Then, if they ask why Santa is so jolly, I joke that it's because I know where all the naughty boys and girls live."

Although it practically goes without saying, said elderly couple and Macy's should be ashamed of themselves. Deeply. A few anonymous store employees, devastated by Toomey's canning, described the foolish firing as an "overreaction." The Macy's public relations department couldn't comment on the firing, because they were too busy stuffing kids' stockings with lumps of coal.

Obviously, Toomey is crushed. He now waits for Macy's to come to their senses and hire him back. Which, yeah. If Macy's knows what's good for them and good for business, they will re-hire Santa Claus as soon as possible.

thats not a good joke...
at all.

Edit: Then again maybe I'm sick for reading implied pedophilia in that second joke.

#3

Thats fucking ridiculous...

#4

Easy mistake to make with the wrong context. FTR, there were no children present.

#5

Why are some old ass people sitting on Santa's lap to begin with? If a grow man or woman sits on another adults lap there asking for it.

#6

Give a few more years and "Christmas" will hardly be heard anymore. Many want to change it to "Happy Holidays". I mean thats actually what they want to name the holiday. Ridiculous

#7

Where is the funny??

#8

Screw all the "happy holiday" people. If you don't like our traditions in this country then get the fuck out or shut the fuck up.

#9

This.

They better not be shocked if they feel aa poke either.

#10

That joke didn't sit well with me either. There is only one context when you're dealing with Santa IMO. I guess if you work with children, don't make pedo jokes.

#11

Come on, Deb. How many times have you heard the "ho ho ho" joke,"Mommy kissing Santa Clause", or seen a sexy Mrs. Clause costume?

#12

Oh come on now... he referred to the adults as boys and girls. It sounded like he was talking about naughty adults to me in the joke.

#13

That is totally different. There is no pedo joke in the examples you used. It's the naughty boys and girls comment that can so easily be taken to mean little kids and that's just a dumb area to go if you're a Santa. I wouldn't complain or have the guy fired for it but I would think that he was risking his job for saying it.

#14

That is probably what he meant but the way he it was described it could have meant either way. I'm just saying there is room for pedo interpretation and that's not smart for a Santa.

#15

But the whole premise of Santa Claus on its own can be interpreted as pedo by today's standards.

To me it's unfortunate that we live by the standards of people who have no sense of humour in society today. You literally can't say ANYTHING anymore.

#16

I disagree. You can say a lot more now than was ever acceptable in the days of my mother and grandmother. You just can't make racist jokes or pedo jokes (around strangers.) Look at the humour that is on primetime tv and tell me that wouldn't have shocked the hell out of people in the 70's and earlier.

You can act like there is some oppressive PC force silencing everyone everywhere but that is actually pretty ridiculous when you think about the standards that you actually live by. I remember when Bart Simpson's 'eat my shorts' was controversial.

#17

It's not pedo joke. When I see my friends, as I approach, I often say, "what's up boys and girls". It's funny when it's a group of dudes. Am I making a pedo joke? No. It's all about the context.

Now it's a slightly RISQUE joke to be sure... but it's the SAME JOKE he's been telling for years. Now ONE person complains and he's fired? BULLSHIT.

#18

Why does he keep telling the same joke over and over? Santa needs new material.

#19

This.
