Macro Nutrient Split

When I see a Macro Nutrient split such as 40/30/30 I’m pretty sure its P/C/F but is it referring to the breakdown of grams of protein/Carbs/Fats or the calories from each, or will it work out to about the same?

Rite now I am under the impression that it is grams of each, and so I just use my benchmark of body weight x 1.5 to find the proteins and then work with that for everything else, but this has been confusing me

Should be k/cals most times unless stated. Fats have 9 k/cals per gram, others have 4
