Lying About Your Lifting Max

So one thing i noticed with almost 90%+ of the people who lift is that they fucking lie about their 1 RM. Now, most of the time, it’s an ego and pride thing, and i can certainly understand it to a point. But this one bastard gives me a ridiculous number that i just can’t fucking stand it. So i wanted to know what the t-nation users think about the following numbers. Now, this kid is currently 18 years old, about 5’7", 218 lbs at about 20% body fat. The 3 big lifting numbers he gave me were 515 bench press, 736 deadlift, and 730 squat. According to some information from the usapowerlifting website, i find those numbers very hard to believe…whether he juiced or not, i think the numbers are extremely inflated.

I’m not gonna say i never lied about my 1 RM, but from all the lifting and reading about lifting, i find those particular numbers very hard to believe.

Lol

Guys will tend to exaggerate their 1 RM numbers. Women tend to say they are lower and won’t count the lifts they made while on vacation or if they can’t remember the name of their spotter.

Did he say that he really doesn’t want to compete because he doesn’t like the attention, and he just does it for himself?

I have reason to suspect that these numbers could be slightly inflated. i.e. BULLSHIT

Go check him out at the gym and see for yourself.

An 18 year old lie? Unpossible!

My lifts are a suck and I have yet to lie about them. I look better than 95% of the people that ask me. I can also tell by looking at people (in person) for the most part if they are lying or are using shit form lifts as their max.

Talking to them about training helps too. When someone has book knowledge but minimal under the bar knowledge it’s easy to call BS.

The main reason not to lie is that often you are more likely to get help if people can see the real picture ie if I posted:

Sq = 130kg
DL = 180kg
Bench = 100kg
(a lie)

as opposed to

Sq = 110kg
DL = 140kg
Bench = 70kg
(assumed truth)

Then people will be able to give more specific advice. Which aides the end user better.

my 1RM is 500… thats for my curls when I’m doing them in the squat rack

some 5’6" 130 pound kid tried telling people he squats 385.

I loled.

I go to school with that guy! He told me he squatted 420lb for reps, my instructor stopped him in mid sentence and said “were those 1/2 or 1/4 reps?” I laughed my arse off.

Are there people under the age of 20 that tell the truth about their lifts OR how many people they’ve slept with?

It’s doubtful prof, and I’m 19

5 and a half years ago I had slept with 30 people in my life.

My max bench is 1,000,000!

im 17 and dont lie about any of my lifts.
theres no point to. im alot stronger than most the local kids anyway. i dont see any need to lie.

as someone mentioned before, its better to say actual lifts than lie because when you lie chances are youll get caught. You can tell when someone benches 300 lbs and when he squats 400.

haha i’ve met so many liars at the gym, it’s so funny… Oh and they are older than age of 21.

Oh yea and including me, my 1RM bench press is just the barbell… ughhhhh

Hahaha. And I’ll keep on lying until it becomes the truth!

22

These numbers i have actually done

205 bench for relatively easy sets of 2
315 deep squat
400 deadlift

and i have slept with 4 girls. they were in order: 5, 7, 7.5, 7.

the first 3 times i was drunk off my ass and didn’t even cum

feels good to get this off my back

Stop lying…
