Low Test Potential, What to Expect from Doctors?

This is my first post on T-Nation. I made an upcoming appointment to see a doctor about a full panel hormone and thyroid test. I feel like i am experiencing all the dreaded symptoms of low test such as lack of motivation, tired all the time, no sex drive(i have a girlfriend and I’m rarely if ever interested in having sex) etc… Ill start with all my stats.

I APOLOGIZE FOR THE LENGTH OF MY POST, IM JUST TRYING TO BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE, ANYONE WHO IS WILLING TO HELP IS GREATLY APPRECCIATED. I TRIED TO STICK TO THE STICKIES RECCOMENDATIONS OF FORUM POSTING.

Im a 20 year old male

31 inch waist

175 pounds

Body hair normal, facial hair i was never one to grow a beard through high school. i never could, i now haven’t shaved in a month and i still do
not have a full beard, very patchy.

i carry my fat in my upper body, back, chest and abs. when i diet for a show my legs and glutes are the first to be striated.

Through high school i struggled with PH induced gyno. very painful when immature high schoolers who didn’t know better would “titty twist” me.

i have yet to get tests done(dec 19th is the first doctors app.) hopefully tests will follow sooner rather than later

i practice IIFYM. Have been for the past 2 years whether it be dieting for a show or offseason growing. 80% of foods are “clean” as a bro would say.

Training was generally heavy in the past(first 3 years of lifting) last two years have been 5-3-1, and assistance work 4 days a week.

testes never hurt or ache

Morning wood is a rarity, i don’t remember when they started to quit happening.

BACKROUND.
I started lifting at the age of 15 and once i saw some results i went to a bodybuilding show as a spectator. i lved it and soon started preparing for my first show. i competed twice when i was 16 but never had the knowledge of dieting so basically just added cardio and dropped carbs close to nothing.

between the first and second show i used pro hormones and packed on 30 pounds in 6 months. never had any issues with side effects. Between the 2nd show and right before 18 years old i ran another PH and the gyno was horrendous. I ran a PCT of nolvadex and letro and the gyno almost disappeared completely. that was until i was almost 19. the gyno came back, and not from any PH. i decided after that scare not to run them anymore.

i was prepping for another show and wanted to get rid of the gyno, i ran letro for a month and a half and the gyno went away. i weaned off the letro a month out from the show everything was fine. until i BINGE ATEâ?¦… the following week after the show i gained 25 poundsâ?¦ i didn’t understand the importance of reverse dieting. the gyno came back larger than ever and since then i have been lethargic and unmotivated as ever. the gyno is beyond painful, i can’t even have my girlfriend rest her head on my left pec without searing pain.

All the shows i entered were “natural” i know now the the NPC is not the cleanest and thats why i could use PH’s because they were over the counter and that was deemed “natural” to the NPC.

i scheduled a doctors appointment and i have been waiting weeks because i am a new patient here in florida(just moved here 6 months ago alone for school) from what i have been reading, my doctor will be an idiot and either won’t prescribe me anything to help or will put me on an unsafe protocol. i will be posting lab results in this post as soon as i can get them back. i just was wondering what i should expect from the doctors point of view and what i could do to combat her stupidity, if she is in fact uneducated on the subject.

i don’t like to think that i will no longer be allowed to compete naturally if i am put on TRT. my main concern right now is getting tested and hopefully finding a way to get gyno removal surgery covered by insurance. I understand my own stupity for running PH’s so young and not being educated enough on the subject… i just took what i was told to by my “trainer/family friend” if i could go back i would not have taken anything or waited till my current age at least.

if there are any problems with what i posted and yu could refer me to a sticky i will go by the book, i need to get this fixed… thank you advance everyone for taking the time to read and respond.

Well, it’s hard to say without seeing your labs. However, I would think that your going to have an uphill battle due to your 1. age 2. you’re a bodybuilder 3. age. From what I’ve heard, gyno surgery for males is strictly cosmetic, so not covered by ins…unfortunately.

“Through high school i struggled with PH induced gyno. very painful when immature high schoolers who didn’t know better would “titty twist” me.”

I can relate to that! That kind of sh** stays with you…for me anyway…psychologically.

“Training was generally heavy in the past(first 3 years of lifting) last two years have been 5-3-1, and assistance work 4 days a week.”

Not sure what you mean by this…5-3-1 is heavy lifting. (:

Sorry to be so vague, the first three years I stayed at rep ranges of 4-6 for any and every exercise. 5-3-1 although heavy and low rep ranges, helped in the sense that any assistance work i did i kept at 10 reps. Only the compound movement for each day was “heavy.” I understand my mistake in high school of using PH’s, just wish my “mentor” was a better one, and more educated on the subject before he decided to instill his “knowledge” to me

Here are my blood test results, my doctors assistant called and left a voice mail saying that all my numbers were in the normal range?
although my free test. was in the “normal” it is on the very low end and that is not comforting seeing as i am only 20 years old. I also don’t understand how having five times the normal progesterone levels is “normal”… i posted all results just in case some smaller factors may contribute to my irritating gyno. thank you all for your help.

No one can help me out here? I have a doctors appointment tomorrow to discuss my test results and see if there is anyway they can help me out.

well, my doctor referred me to an endocrinologist. when i told her i didn’t feel normal she basically said “tough, theres nothing i can do to help but ill send you to an endo if you want.” fast forward to now, i went to the endo and he didn’t like my blood test results. so he made me get new ones for prolactin, testosterone total(again), FSH,LH, cortisol and TSH.

FSH
Feb. 25, 2014

Normal: 0.95 mIU/mL - 11.95 mIU/mL

Cortisol
Feb. 25, 2014
11.4 ug/dL
Normal: 2.9 ug/dL - 19.4 ug/dL

Testosterone Total
Feb. 25, 2014
505 ng/dL
Normal: 240 ng/dL - 871 ng/dL

again tests are in the “normal” ranges. But now i have new concerns. in december when i had the first labs done my total test. was 360 ish shown above. but now its 505?!?! now i understand that testosterone varies just like cortisol depending on time of day, but the first test was done at 10:30 am in dec. and the one i just took this week was done at 8:00am. how can it drop 150 points in 2 hours?? that means by the end of the night that i should in fact have almost no total testosterone.

another concern is the low LH and low FSH. “normal” but very close to not being normal. idk what is going on, thats why I’m seeking help from the doc and here, but something is definatley not right. my libido is shot, i feel like i just woke up all day long, no intensity in the gym even if i do take pre workout, and just a sense of depression.

i came to this site because it was reffered to me as a helpful place, and i have had almost no response. I’m not badgering the community here hell, maybe i just didn’t have enough lab results to make it worth your time. but id appreciate a little insight, this feeling is starting to ruin and run my life…
