Monday, Jan. 30 -- Boxing
Jump rope - 2 x 3
Shadowboxing - 2 x3
Partner drills - 1 hour
More line drills, which we do by placing boxers on each side of a rope that bisects the ring. Those boxers pair off, and do catch/counter drills that start with the jab and end with live sparring. The rope acts in similar fashion to the tires in that it keeps you from turning things into a brawl, but lets you work your footwork and distance more effectively.
I did pretty well. Kept a tight defense, and countered where I could, when I could. Had some pretty intense work with a couple open class guys and landed my jab well. I've been told my jab hits pretty goddamned hard, a fact I attribute to my being right-handed in everyday life. Even though I fight southpaw, my right hand is stronger, and so it probably hits more like a straight right than the weak-side jab most have to develop.
