Local Egg v. Omega3 Egg

Nah, I was talking to the guy paying $3.79 for a dozen. They are probably ripping him off. My aunt runs a small farm with ~100 chickens (Its really hard to count them all if you ever try it) and the price is never over $2.00 a dozen for strangers (winter makes it closer to that $2.00 mark). I can understand your willingness to pay extra over cost to support a friends hobby farm operation but if you go to a farm to buy eggs from someone you don’t know $3.79 is ridiculous. Maybe I would pay $3.00 at a farmers market, adding in costs of transport and whatnot, but this is just speculation.

Omega 3 eggs generally just means they put some flax seed in the feed…

Nothing to write home about.

guess we shouldn’t eat salmon then huh, omega-3 eggs are not a scam. JB recommends omega-3 eggs, I’ll take his word over yours[/quote]

I like Beradi’s work too.

But for me and with reference to omega 3 eggs (in the UK at least):

  • they are relatively expensive at least when compared to getting o3 by other means (fish/fish oil)
  • they are not very high in EPA/DPA, higher in ALA
