My all time best Chin up set was 27 at 170lbs
21 at 200lbs is not bad. I might be happy at 50 one day lol.

Random pop in!

I know I talked with you about your hip and recovery before I had surgery in 2017. Iā€™m back for more info.

It seems you recovered well and havenā€™t looked back. When we spoke in Sept of '16 you said you havenā€™t had any issues with squat and deadlift. Have you done anything since then that hurt or felt off?

I had surgery in Dec of '17. Everything was great until July. I was released to do what I wanted in March. From March to June I built my strength back up to previous or even new levels.

I changed gears to bring up my conditioning and tried doing some CrossFit WODs. The first time I tried front squats I felt pain again. I did 3 x 5 with what I thought was a warm up weight and Iā€™ve been in pain since that moment.

I think I reinjured/tore my labrum. The Doc disagreed and thought it was just inflammation. Iā€™ve tried his anti inflammatory stuff with no relief. Iā€™ll see him again in two days.

Have you hit any bumps in the road?

Iā€™ve been lucky. I started squatting and deadlifting earlier than I should have, but rather light. I think that helped me gain mobility and strength.

The most I Squatted in my life was 535lbs and since surgery my best was 405lbs. I prefer the SSQ bar box Squats now as they are easier to recover from. My best DL preinjury was 575lbs and I think 500lbs was my most post op. Today 480 was pretty easy. I think Iā€™m good for 515.

Conditioning isnā€™t what it used to be. Especially, running. Not as fast or powerful as in the past. I really canā€™t jump in any significance. Jumping jacks are fine, but if I wanted to jump on a box or table it is not happening lol. Even burpees are ugly. I do mountain climber every workout as a warm-up.

I walk pretty much every day. I stretch every night before bed. Wall squat hold is your best friend.

My surgery was on my right hip. On a few occasions I have felt issues in my left hip flexor, but it usually goes away soon. Probably muscular.

I believe diet plays a big role on how you feel. I have done Intermittent Fasting for about a year and a half and I feel great. I eat a mostly plant based diet which reduces inflammation substantially. When I do drink milk or eat red meat I usually feel some negative effects.

It might help to add more vegetables and fruits in your diet to see if it helps. If your problem is inflammation that should help.

All things considered I am very happy with my progress. Presurgery I could barely walk, couldnā€™t lift my foot more than a few inches off of the floor, and I was in constant and sometimes paralyzing pain. Now I have full mobility and I take the stairs as much as possible at work just because I can.

My injury isnā€™t/wasnā€™t near as bad as yours so I guess I have that going for me. I just have a dull ache about 80% of the day. Today I noticed during some hang power snatches that Iā€™m severely leaning away from the bad hip ā€“ even with 135 lbs on a pulling movement. I fear that Iā€™m headed back to the operating table. I feel the same pains that I had before my first surgery.

Iā€™d like to be wrong but I also donā€™t know what I can do to improve the issue. Iā€™m sure you can relate to this - the list of things that I avoid due to pain is growing and itā€™s getting close to including just about everything.

Thanks for the response. Itā€™s good to see you getting back to full form. You were/are stronger than I am, but I hit some PRs after surgery including a 370 squat and 545 lb deadlift. I wonder if that was a good thing or not but everything was pain free at that point in time. Itā€™s the 135 lb front squat that turned out to be the bad guy.
