Legumes: Good or Bad?

#1

So Ive been hearing a lot of bad things about legumes (i.e. lentils, beans)

Ive been hearing that they are considered an inflammatory food. Basically causing unwanted inflammation in the body... Is this bad for athletes/bodybuilders.

And are cooked lentils a good whole food to be taking in??

#2

Yes.

They're fine to eat.

#3

don't eat it for a month and see how you feel, re introduce it and see how you feel.

Personally they do me no good but a spoonful of peanut butter every now and then doesn't kill me.

#4

they are yum yum

#5

I enjoy lentils and other beans. Doesnt cause me any more gas than normal, so I eat them whenver I desire.

#6

Soak 'em for a day or two so that they ferment. This eliminates up to 99% of lectins, and makes them much easier to digest. (lentils have a LOT of lectins)

I have not touched a lentil since the day I was like 10 years old and my father got mad at me for not eating fast enough and complaining about the lentil soup. He took a tablespoon and began shovelling the soup in my mouth until the gag reflex kicked in.

There is a saying in Greece that the people on the island my father is from are "crazy in the head". Now I know why.

Lentils make me think of that incident and others from when I was a child... I sometimes long for the taste of vengence and satisfaction I would feel by beating my father to within inches of his life and then asking him how it is to feel as powerless as a small innocent child does when confronted by the indomitable force of his parents? Except that he is not innocent and deserves every iota of pain and suffering. His punishment would be to live out the remainder of his years with the mental trauma and physical disabilities of his beating haunting him till his grave. It would be a just world that would allow the grown son this form of retributive justice upon his father.

you take your username as a gimmick seriously, huh

#12

good to know sterneneisen and houstonguy, I was starting to think everything I knew about the great protein source of the legume family had been taking away from me... "tear"

Luckily I soak my lentils and will continue to enjoy the fiber and protein they provide!!
:slightly_smiling: In fact I think this whole food group is essential to a healthy diet. "no more tears"

Bumpity bump.

Any more thoughts on legumes?
Do they make anyone else fee a little bloated?
I would be lost woithout the kidney bean. I have it everyday in my chilli for lunch.

I cut them out a while ago (along with wheat products). I feel less gastric distress, and frankly, I don't miss the beans at all. I just double up on the meat!

I never felt anything negative from eating beans. Then again I never ate too much at one sitting (1/2 cup at most). Don't think there's anything wrong with them if you have some in chili or your Chipotle bowl. Good source of fiber fo sho.

Bean Beans they're good for your heart

The more you eat, the more you fart

The more you fart the better you feel

So lets eat beans with every meal!

Beans, lentils give me the farts of satan, literally. Lentil soup makes my fats smell like i've eaten a canister of tear gas.

Beans, beans, they give you gas
They make you fart, and burn your ass
The more you eat, the more it hurts
So slow down your eating to stop the squirts
