340 x 10. (Didn’t realize this was a rep PR. Could have grinded 1, maybe a very ugly 2nd more. Didn’t feel as bad as the other rep PRs. This is a good sign)

OHP
95 x 5
105 x 5
115 x 5 (lost balance on the 4th, then the 5th felt shitty. regardless, consistently getting good ROM now, so hopefully going that low will increase strength for the bottom of the lift once I try 135 again in the near future)

@T3hPwnisher curious on your thoughts on my OHP? I held my breath the entire time

Love the grind! Good to see

Thanks man! Do you think I should be pushing my head more forward on the ascent?

If its one of your goals to press that way, you have room to do so

Nah. I just see from some tutorial videos that it makes the lift more stable, but not too sure.

Squat
240 x 3
275 x 3
295 x 1
315 x 1
335 x 12x body weight!! not quite depth, but way better than my attempt at 330

Bench
135 x 5
155 x 3
175 x 1 (failed the second. LOL can’t have them both right)

Went a little off schedule for the squat. I was supposed to do 300 for 1+
Was thinking about shooting for a 300 x 5 (New 5RM) or a 335 x 1 (2x BW squat). Happy that I tried the 335

If you’re trying to press directly over your head, yeah: it’s more stable to have the head through than back. But if you’re just trying to hit the shoulders, having the head back/a little backward lean isn’t bad.

Ahh gotcha. Well I’m trying to be as stable as I can and lift max Weight

In a straight line above your head?

Not necessarily

First video was last session’s attempt at 175 x 3. Was supposed to deadlift and OHP but gym bros were there. Decided to try again for 175, felt good, then they pushed me to go for 185. Feels good man.

This 1 plate OHP is the lift that has eluded me the most…I’ll probably be happier reaching this than when I hit 405 on sumo and 315 on squat…

Then yeah, I wouldn’t sweat it. I pressed in front of my face for a long time and still got strong overhead. Strong is strong!

You weren’t far off that bench rep. It looks to me like you still need to get a lot tighter in your set up. Looks like you breathed after you unracked it and your position changed a bit. @wiseman83 thoughts?

Just realized the title was a typo. That attempt was 190.

You’re not wrong. I usually let go of my breath when I unrack and then re-brace. Definitely not optimal for a 1RM. Can you expound where I need to stay tighter in my set up? Is it specifically on the descent and upper back?

The cue I try to use is to tuck my shoulder into the opposite hip pocket. It’s hard to explain but when I grab the bar I squeeze my shoulders together and down. This help with the arching of the back and pushes my traps down into the pad. The hard part is to not lose this and let the shoulders rotate when you unrack. It was described to me that the upper back brace should be so tight it is uncomfortable. After all a single rep attempt only takes a few seconds.

Brian Alsruhe who is @Alpha on here has heaps of good bench videos on his you tube channel.
