lactitol

What is the deal with this stuff? It’s in “sugar free” candy like hershey bars and stuff. How does the body process this? Is it safe to eat while on a T-dawg type diet? How does lactitol effect blood sugar? Any info is greatly appreciated!

It’s an alcohol sugar.

It’s not processed the same way as a carb, but it has a sweet taste (think sorbitol). It actually bypasses the small intestine and is usually fermented by gut bacteria in the colon. So, if you find you get gassy after consuming it, that is why.
It doesnt have the same effect on insulin release as other carbs and that’s why it’s used in diet foods.
