L-Carnitine Success?

Anybody have success stories on L-Carnitine. My understanding is that it is "used by the body to transport long chain fatty acids to the mitochondria in your cells, where they are burned for energy." So why don't you hear about this in the "Fat Burning" infomercials? I ask because I am looking at different supplementations and their affects.

Typically, l-carnatine is NOT the rate limiting factor in this process (from what I understand). You would have to be severly deficient for this product to have any effect.

Tha being said, Charlie Francis recommends this product to many of his athletes. L-carnatine does have other effects in the body. A research article was just published in this months Strength and Conditioning journal from the NSCA. I can't quite recall what the study said, as the the journal is currently in my locker at the moment.

i think most people agree that l-carnitine pretty much sucks balls.

This is a supplement based on the physiological function of the enzyme carnitine palmityl transferase-1 (CPT-1).

CPT-1 is simply responsible for carrying free fatty acids to the mitochondria to be oxidized. Incidentally CPT-1 is inhibited by malonyl-CoA which is an intermediate in fat synthesis. When liver glyocogen is topped, malonyl-CoA is high. So you can see how dietary intake can affect this.

CPT-1 is a very efficient enzyme and is tightly regulated. Supplementing with some extra l-carnitine is not going to have any additive effect.

Don't waste your money.
