Janet Faraone Deadlifts 275x10!

That video was fucking hilarious. Holy shit. I’m talking about the Mike Tyson bit, by the way.

Iron Mike always gets the laughs.

What is that girl sniffing in the video? and why is she doing it??

Damn she is strong!

Let’s keep this thread on topic and not turn it into another DW thread. Matt, you were very gracious, but please don’t encourage the hijack. DW, if you want to post your progress videos, please start another thread.

I was very impressed by her video. When I DL I usually keep it to 5 reps and less after I do a couple of warm up sets at 135 for ten. The day after watching this I tried 225 for ten and found it to be easier than expected (did 3 sets). I kept saying to myself “don’t think about it, just do it”. Funny thing is, about an hour later I felt this wave of exhaustion/euphoria hit me. It was great. I have now incorporated these high rep, moderately heavy (for me) DL into my regular routine and do them about once a month.

Damn, I can’t wait until I can say the same thing about that amount of weight…

How long did it take you to work up to the numbers you are at now?

Well, you have to remember that we all have what are are good at and what we suck at. I wish I could squat as well as I DL, but alas, it is something I continue to struggle with.

Well, I’ve been training for about 23 years, but was pretty much half-ass for the first 15 (school took up nine of those). I am an ectomorph and have no natural athletic ability or previous sports background. I’m not much of a team player and enjoy weightlifting because it is something I can do alone. (My husband is the only training partner I’ve ever had. And we don’t train together, we just meet at the gym, do our own workouts and spot each other.)

I hope to get up to the 10@275 mark before the end of the year. That would be nice. And, no, I don’t use gear…or gear. Just a belt.

BTW, there is a female powerlifter at my gym that does sets of ten at 225 balistically like it’s 135. So everything is relative. She lifts in the USAPL, so she gets drug tested. I know she DL’s over 400 in competition and she’s a bench press specialist.

Ammonia caps, it puts you in the zone.

And to the earlier poster saying “Don’t think about it, just do it” its a powerlifting thing.

You lift with the same perfect form thousand of times and when you’re working on something hard you don’t want to overthink it, you just want to do what your body knows to do.

And DW, I know lots of powerlifters that neglected form and can’t lift now. They’re injured, some badly. You obviously like what you’re doing, why not prolong your lifting career, powerlifting is something you can do damn near forever if you stay injury free.

Never tried the ammonia caps, but then I’m not a powerlifter. Wouldn’t you eventually habituate to it? I’m assuming they use them sparingly?

[hijack+rant] (But then, it’s all about women and deadlifting.)

Gojira, I have to argue with you there. For one: I think you posted a back pic once, and the spinal erectors were especially impressive–no doubt from deadlifting. So I have to argue with you calling yourself an ectomorph, AND with you saying you’re not a powerlifter. You’re as much a powerlifter (at least re: deads) as many on this site.

Every one of several women I saw in the weightroom this morning (none of them looking frail or scoliotic or overweight) was taking turns using the big inflated balls and plastic-coated colored DBs, and I daydreamed about any one of the women on this site walking in and doing her workout and leading by example.

AG1 and sic and gojira and Sabrina and all the rest are just as impressive as Faraone, because they are out there pushing themselves and refusing to be limited by stereotypes.
