Israel Sells Our Secrets to China

"Secret U.S. missile and electro-optics technology was transferred to China recently by Israel, prompting anger from the U.S. and causing a senior Israeli defense official to resign.

The head of defense exports for the Israeli Defense Ministry resigned after a U.S. investigation concluded that technology, including a miniature refrigeration system manufactured by Ricor and used for missiles and in electro-optic equipment, was sent to China, according to the Israeli newspaper Maariv.

Another Israeli news site, Aretz Sheva, reports the U.S. is concerned the technology could ultimately find its way to Iran, which last year sought to buy military equipment from China for its nuclear program.

Ricor, on its company website, identifies a number of defense programs using its miniature cryo-coolers, including UAVs, airborne enhanced vision systems, missile warning systems, hand-held thermal imagers and thermal weapons sights.

The Maariv report identified the Israeli defense official as Meir Shalit, and said he apologized to U.S. officials on a recent visit.

Israel has a long record of getting U.S. military technology to China."

Bomb 'em all.

The US is an unreliable ally and the Israelis have absolutely no margin for mistakes. So they are very wise to court the Chinese and the Indians. Considering the big picture these are minor whining points HH.

What about the US giving stealth technology to the Iranians who have turned around and sold it to the Chinese and Russians? Or the US forcing the F35 on to the Israeli air force?

Maybe that is our way of selling technology to people who “aren’t supposed to” have it. Or at least somebody’s way. Where there’s a will…

This

This is the problem with selling military hardware to foreign nationals. No matter how ITAR compliant everyone is and how secure the export license is, there is still a risk of the product falling into the wrong hands. Despite re-export restrictions, our stuff still seems to find a way into 3rd party hands sooner or later.

If Headhunter can’t blame or abuse Israel he doesn’t care.

Nice somebody knows what the story is though.

Some years back at work we sold a satellite uplink system to a customer in the UK. We had considerable R&D money into it with lots of state of the art micro-miniature components in it. This was in 2002 or so. There was an upgrade that we made to it and some components were replaced with new ones we sent them.

The old parts, some of them wound up on eBay. Somehow they got into the hands of a liquidator who buys up obsolete military electronics from companies and resells them. So there was our product shown, with all the marking and a pretty good description of what it did. Anyone that knew what it was and dissected one, would learn a lot very quickly.

Our legal department and compliance office got involved and the auction was taken down quickly. The DoD had to be notified since it was an ITAR violation. I never knew what the actual steps that were taken in the process, but it was a holy shit moment for all of us working there.
