Is Beef Jerky a Decent Snack??

I like to chew on some (keyword “some” not 3 lbs of the stuff) high quality locally made jerky. Aside from the salt content I figured it was a decent snack with a good amount of protein? Any thoughts?

i eat jerky all the time…and close to 3 lbs at a time too…(jk)…high protien snack, beats the hell out of anything in the vending machine…

I love it as a snack and I’ve heard that home-made is less salty.

I can’t see any reason it’d be bad (besides the damn price!) as long as it fits in with your daily or weekly macronutrient goals.

Be careful of what they put in it. A lot of manufacturers use MSG, if that matters to you. Also most jerky uses a lot of sugar, i.e., upto 7g(avg 4g) of carbs per 9g of protien.

Does anyone here, know a good place to find beef jerky in montreal, can?

It seems to be hard to find here…

Check out any oriental market. They should have it.

Be sure to check out you local butchers. In my experience, they have the best quality, plus you’ll be supporting a local business.

it’s so easy and ALOT cheaper.

seeing how you can go and buy a food dehydrator at almost any walmart or target these days, it would make sense to go get one, and then make your own beef jerky.
You can do this by going to the butcher at the supermarket and asking them to cut some meat really thin.

Take it home, make it yourself. This way you get the seasoning you want and don’t have to put in all the unnecessary ingredients (like the weird preservatives in some brands of jerky). Also, it will turn out to be a lot cheaper in the long run if you go this route.
