Intro and TRT Questions

#1

Afternoon everyone,

I am new here. I am 48 and had my Testosterone Total Serum come back at 1.45 ng/dl where the normal range (according to my Doctor) is 2.0 - 8.0 ng/dl. He has agreed to start me on TRT. He is my Primary Doctor. I suggested injections (i can do myself) and he seems to think that self injections are no longer available. What should I be looking for in terms of TRT? Gel, patch, injection, etc? What about dosage? Should I also be taking HCG and if so what dosage/dosing? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Most here use injections. Not sure what your doc meant by “no longer available”. Assuming you are in Chicago based on username self-injection is alive and well in the states. =)

Injections are by far the most effective way to administer TRT, gels fail because most do not absorb well and those that do in the beginning stop absorbing at a later date and wonder why their levels are continuing to fall even after dosage increases. Most start out on 100 mg a week and how often you inject depends on your SHBG level. Your doctor sounds like he’s never prescribed TRT in his career and if this is so he doesn’t have the skills to manage your hormones. Primary doctors usually don’t have any training in TRT and most endo are no different. You really need to find a hormone specialist, their better at managing hormones than a typical endo.
